Summary

I thought he took my secret to the grave. But the truth can’t stay buried forever....

In the wake of my darling husband’s death, I am so lucky to have my three beautiful, grown-up daughters by my side at our holiday home in Scotland. We need some time together to recover from the shock. But I also need to set some things straight about their beloved father....

I’ve always known this house was the perfect place to bury secrets–remote, isolated, surrounded by nothing but miles of dense forest.

But this time, I’m not here to hide more of my lies. I’m here to expose one.

I promise everything I’ve ever done has been to protect my daughters. I just hope they understand that too.

By the end of the trip, nothing will ever be the same again. I knew revealing the truth about the inheritance would have consequences, but I could never have imagined we wouldn’t all survive it.

And now that the truth is out, am I in danger too?

A totally gripping psychological thriller from an Amazon best seller that will have your head spinning and your jaw on the floor with every twist. Fans of The Housemaid, Gone Girl, and The Family Upstairs won’t be able to hit pause.

a fascinating read

Despite finding some parts a little slow and others a bit confusing, I enjoyed it overall and found the storyline fascinating. The little twists along the path to the denouement at the end were compelling..... and what an ending! Tamsin narrated it perfectly.

Confusing but stick with it

Initially I got really cross with all quantity of characters, there’s so many and all are twisted & weaved into one holiday at a family batch in Scotland, each with their own secrets and dramas …however as the story progresses the twists come thick and fast and despite the increasing confusion between characters in places, the story shapes up well and is surprising, with some cracking plot shocks.

Not all the folk are likeable though and there’s some very strange descriptives that are a bit cringeworthy - nevertheless, clever.

The end …. Worth every minute; stick with it, I’m glad I did.

Dreary

I tried to stick this out, the author being new to me and some good reviews. But it was so dreary and boring, not helped by the sludgy narration. There are some good 'hooks', suggested secrets, mysteries from the past, that made me feel I wanted to find out more, but I couldn't take any more and the 'secrets' weren't interesting enough to hold me. So I sent it back.
The narrator has a nice voice, and when speaking in her own voice, is fine. But some of her accents are appalling and make the characters sound really stupid. To try and imitate Lancashire accents, or to use a male voice, she makes them sound lumbering and plodding, as if not very bright.
I think we have to get interested in the characters that inhabit a mystery, but none of these are likeable or real. I didn't care what would happen to any of them enough to get to the end.
