Summary

Rosemary Weathers landed the perfect job. Recruited right from her doctoral program at MIT, Rosie found herself in a top-secret, high-tech micro-robotics lab where every tech tool she ever dreamed of was at her fingertips. Better still, she lived (for free) in a modern high-rise in the heart of Miami with a panoramic view of Biscayne Bay.

Her tiny I.M.P.s (Individual Micro-robotic Personnel) would make America (and the world) a better place. At least, that's what she was led to believe.

Truth hidden is hard to see, and, for Rosie Weathers, nearly impossible to escape.

One piece at a time

Oh, what fun: this would make a glorious film with the visual excitement of Now You See Me, but a much bigger cast. Rosie Weathers loves the view from her rent free apartment located in the same Miami tower block in which she works. She and her team design and build miniature robotic honey bee drones. All are well paid and provided, free, with anything they might need within the building, from accomodation, fine dining and entertainment, to ordering deliveries to be brought in, but they are discouraged from going outside and have no mobile phones. Under observation all the time, when Rosie decides she wants out, she also realizes this could be very dangerous...

Starting with the introduction of Rosie, her job and her boss, this expands into the story of the attempted rescue, complete with a clown, a dog and balloons plus a vast cast of others. Despite a seriously worrying concept at it's heart, this is a very humorous book filled with gloriously colourful characters and inventive ideas. Very visual, too, unfolding in technicality in the reader's mind's eye. Jim Foster narrates, fully engaging in the emotion of the story, voicing each protagonist individually and even giving a passable imitation of Bob Dy!an singing The Times They Are A'Changing. Great performance.

When I requested a copy of The IMP Master, I had not expected so much fun. My thanks to the rights holder who freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. Very enjoyable, and recommended.
