Summary

It looks like a regular advent calendar. Until DC Becky Greene starts opening doors...and discovers a crime scene behind almost every one. The police hope it's a prank. Because if it isn't, a murderer has just surfaced - someone who's been killing for 20 years. But why now? And why has he sent it to this police station?

As the country relaxes into festive cheer, Greene and DS Eddie Carmine must race against time to catch the killer. Because there are four doors left, and four murders will fill them.... It's shaping up to be a deadly little Christmas.

A great, not so festive Christmas tale

I really enjoyed this book - the kind of macabre advent calendar that nobody wants to find. Intriguing story, some parts which were really tense and great narration. Loved the characters and hope that the series continues.

Good story...

.. the only thing I didn’t like to begin with was the speed of the narration, I thought Simon Mattacks was rushing a bit too much, I did get used to it but it was the only thing that took away one star from my review. I loved the story and would like to read more from this author.

Festive Serial Killer Thriller

The police receive an advent calendar in the post, but when DC Becky Greene starts opening the windows she discovers there’s a crime scene behind each one. And it seems that the killer has been active for the past twenty years! But four windows are empty, and so Becky and her boss, DS Eddie Carmine, have to race against time to catch the killer before he kills again.

This is an interesting police procedural which is well written with a clever plot and more than enough twists, and not too much gore. The relationship between Becky and Eddie is great and both characters felt credible.
I read this in the run up to Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely like to see a sequel.

not sure

What did you like best about The Deaths of December? What did you like least?

the plot was okay - the Christmas approach was clever

Was The Deaths of December worth the listening time?

it was ok, the writing was average - good to listen to if you were doing other things, it did not need or keep your attention.

Any additional comments?

rather formulaic not really the cliffhanger that it could have been

One of the best crime thrillers I’ve read in recent years.

Until yesterday, I incredibly, had not heard of Susi Holliday. Thanks to an old work, colleague, who, after a brief discussion about books, told me she was an old school friend of this fantastic author. Given that I have read nearly 1400 books, all crime thriller based, over the last three years. I am stunned that Audible had never offered this book to me as a suggestion. After reading this first book. I am hooked! What an incredibly well written book. Extremely gripping storyline. Believable characters. Natural flowing dialogue. Just an all-round. Awesome book! I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I am now, after reading this from start to finish in one go. About to commence book 2 of this trilogy. What a fantastic read!
