Summary

From the No.1 bestselling author, comes an exciting novel new to Hodder in eBook and audio.

On an island off the coast of Maine, a man is found dead. There's no identification on the body. Only the dogged work of a pair of local newspapermen and a graduate student in forensics turns up any clues.

But that's just the beginning of the mystery. Because the more they learn about the man and the baffling circumstances of his death, the less they understand. Was it an impossible crime? Or something stranger still...?

No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world's great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself....

Short story

It’s a short story or novella but it’s still very good. The narration is excellent once you get used to the accent

A Wonderful Accident

I bought this audiobook by mistake, as I was falling asleep last night. Woke up this morning and found it in my library. Under normal circumstances, this would've annoyed me no end, but I've listened to the entire story today and enjoyed it immensely.
The narrator was truly excellent, perfectly capturing the accents and nuances of New England, and making the characters come to life.
King can always be relied upon to deliver a ripping yarn, whatever the genre, so I can heartily recommend this to anyone wondering what to listen to next!

lost interest fast

The narrator did voices well the trouble is the accents were too thick for me being from the UK. I couldn't understand half of what Dave and Vince were saying. They seemed to be the main characters so from what I could make out they did the majority of the talking. I love the series Haven and I knew this would be very different but the mumbling made it impossible to get in to the story. Biggest regret purchase on audible.

A pair of 'ol yankees telling the tale

I liked this story - particularly on Audible because I felt I was sat there with the two old guys listening to the story unfold. A very enjoyable way to while away some time. I was left wanting to know them better. And I've a feeling, knowing Mr King, as I am a long time Constant Reader, that I may get get to do just that..

Short and boring

Weak story. Not what I’d usually expect from a King. Not a fan of this title.

Not a lot to commend it.

This is a short book which is just as well because it's tedious and unengaging
