Summary
A Waterstones Thriller of the Month selection and the Sunday Times best seller
A secret beach.
A holiday of a lifetime.
Wish you were here?
Think again....
You wake on a beautiful, remote island.
Sparkling blue seas, golden sunsets, barely a footprint in the sand.
Yet this is no ordinary escape.
Next to the wreck of a plane, a stranger paces. Another sharpens a knife, scoring a list of the dead onto a palm tree. Others watch from the shadows of a campfire—all with untold stories and closely guarded secrets....
This is no ordinary holiday.
This is no ordinary island.
This is no ordinary book for the beach.
Gripping, twisty and full of sun-soaked atmosphere, The Castaways will whisk you far away to the island—and never let you go.
Critic reviews
"Beautifully-written, we’re tipping it as one of 2021’s best reads." (Marie Claire)
"Totally addictive, clever and atmospheric. It’s a rare thriller that melts your heart as well as it keeps you turning the pages, but Lucy Clarke has pulled it off." (Erin Kelly)
"Tense, unnerving and emotional." (C. L. Taylor)

An easy read
The story had some strong elements, but did not quite deliver on its promise. However, I was drawn in enough to want to hear what happened in the end. In terms of the actual performance, the 2 narrators did not sound like they'd been brought up in the same family, the voice of the Erin, the younger sister was a bit grating, but not enough to make me stop listening. Worth half a credit....i.e wait for it on a 2 for 1 offer!

Good
This was a good story, and I enjoyed the overall premise. I thought the narration was great and I could feel the pain and love between the two sisters. The story in parts did remind me of the TV series 'Lost" as the stories all came together

Great holiday thriller
A great holiday thriller, perfect for reading on the beach. The author has a knack for really delving deep into sister relationships in her books.

Good story - unnecessary excessive swearing
We enjoyed the plot. There's mystery not only in the main plot but also around each character. The performance is really good so it makes up for what lacks in the story at times.
Keeps you guessing.
We found the constant swearing irritating. One character swearing is understandable, but there's far too much in this book and it really is unnecessary at times. It did spoil for my husband and I.

Great start, disappointing end
I enjoyed the majority of this story, especially Lori's chapters. I was really looking forward to finding out how it ended but was slightly disappointed. Both narrators did a great job though.

Loved it
Fast paced, lots of twists and turns, held my interest throughout. Would be great as a film - the story creates a fabulous visual imagery. My first book from this author and will be reading more. Great narration too - especially Erins character.

Really good for a bit of escapism
It's a bit of a far fetched storyline but it will keep you listening. The narrators are great. Would recommend for an easy listen with lots of twists and turns til the end. 4/5
