Summary

When a prophesy brings war to the Land of the Black Hills, Keeley Smythe must join forces with a clan of mountain warriors who are really centaurs in a thrilling new fantasy romance series from New York Times best-selling author G.A. Aiken.

The Old King Is Dead

With the demise of the Old King, there's a prophesy that a queen will ascend to the throne of the Black Hills. Bad news for the king's sons, who are prepared to defend their birthright against all comers. But for blacksmith Keeley Smythe, war is great for business. Until it looks like the chosen queen will be Beatrix, her younger sister. Now it's all Keeley can do to protect her family from the enraged royals.

Luckily, Keeley doesn't have to fight alone. Because thundering to her aid comes a clan of kilt-wearing mountain warriors called the Amichai. Not the most socially adept group, but soldiers have never bothered Keeley, and rough, gruff Caid actually seems to respect her. A good thing because the fierce warrior will be by her side for a much longer ride than any prophesy ever envisioned....

Multiple female leads

Loved the accents, the ensemble characters. The detail and the interplay of family relationships. Really well written and narrated, no dragging parts. Even the romance was subtle and melded with the story. All in all, an enjoyable book. Looking forward to the rest kd the series.

I'm going to be screaming about this book forever.

Funny. Sexy. Exciting. Feminist. I love this book, and everyone needs to listen to it.

Could put down

There was nothing I didn’t like about this.book. I loved the narrator the book was one you couldn’t stop reading the story was engrossing. I can’t wait for the next part although I have read this author under her other name this is the first book I’ve read under this one. It definitely won’t be the last one. I’m going back for a reread as there was so much happening I am bound to have missed something.

Awesome! from start to finish.

OMG, so great story by this amazing author but made 10 times better with just the greatest narrator ever. I enjoyed every moment of this book as much as I would enjoyed reading it.

Excellent

I loved this book and cant wait for the next in the series. The characterisation was good, as was the storyline and the narrator brought the whole thing to life.

Tries too hard

All action adventure with stupid men outwitted by lowly women at every turn. The narrator was so breathlessly excited by EVERY word that I had to turn the speed down to understand her properly. There were some good ideas but I won’t be following this author until they grow up and write more real characters and less blood and gore.
