Summary

From best-selling author Peter Meredith

The Apocalypse Crusade - The First Three Days

The world is suddenly thrown into chaos as a research project is sabotaged and the dead come alive to feast on the living - it seems like an old story, doesn’t it? Or perhaps you’ve heard this one: cities worldwide are overrun by a plague of man-eating monsters that seem to come out of nowhere while small bands of heroes fight for their lives!

Yes, we’ve all listened to that book.

The Apocalypse Crusade is not that book. You are not suddenly thrust into a world gone mad. Instead, you get front-row seats to how the sh-t went down. In real time you are witness to the agony and the horror…and the terrible stupidity that made it all possible.

This book puts you in the thick of the action. You are the stockbroker who throws a brick through a convenience store window and surges in with the crowd to loot what he can before it’s too late and the food runs out. And you are the 30-year-old housewife who picks up that same brick an hour later and uses it to crack open the skull of a stranger because she has two children to feed. His arms are full and hers are empty - survival is just that simple sometimes.

You are the ill-prepared family man who foolishly believes the authorities when they say the situation is contained. The line at the gas station is three miles long, wrapping around block after block and so, in a state of denial you go home and play a game of monopoly with the wife and kids as the horde of undead grows and grows all around you.

And you are the soldier on the line, sweating beneath your helmet and vest. At 10 that morning you were a cocky thing. You were going to kick ass - but that was then. Now, 12 hours later, you’ve retreated four times and you are counting your bullets and eyeing the gas mask sitting on the log next to you.

You hate the thing. You can’t see worth a damn when it’s on and you sure as hell can’t shoot straight. But to leave it off could mean becoming infected. On the other hand, you know that if you miss just one time you could be eaten alive, screaming and screaming. It happened to Davis and his cries still ring in your ears.

The mask stays on the log and the headache you’ve had for the last hour really starts to thump and your mouth tastes like ass and your vision is blurry....

This book was very enjoyable. Great story lines. Erik Johnson did a narrating job. I will look forward to next in the series.

Loved this followed on to get day 4 and 5

I'll be honest, I wouldn't of purchased day 1 on it's own. Since I finished this I had to get book for and 5.

I loved this whole series good characters decent story you honestly don't know when/who will die or how.

It's got the sciency bit and done well not completely far fetched. Action done well very entertained and a good bit of skullduggery combined magnificently book 4 and 5 too oh damn!

Amazing trilogy for one credit

Could not stop listening to this trilogy such good fun and engaging, Absolutely loved some of the characters.

This is based on the first 3 days of an apocalypse, listening to how the politicians handle the situation is totally believable.

Book two was for me my favorite i think i got through that in one day. The Connecticut bubble was so good I couldn't wait for the chapters about this side story.

Needless to say I have already purchased book 4 and 5 to see the ending of this incredible story. Id love to give more of a detailed review for this but I don't want to leave any spoilers.

I would say this is more of a mans story but if you like zombies then this is a great book set

NOT just another apocalypse!

I am a huge fan of post apocalyptic stories, but have found some releases just tiresome repeats of stories already told. This narrative by Peter Meredith opens up the genre from a new perspective.

Think zombie apocalypse, but in your back yard. This story is much more relatable, highlighting the confusion, fear and general misdirection one would expect to experience at the onset of the end of the world.

This is not a story about the hero saving the day, but of people simply fighting to stay alive and alliances formed in an effort to make that more possible.

If you like zombie stories, this is a must buy. Great work and can’t wait to start the next instalment.

fairly decent

I enjoyed the take on how inept and weasel like the government would be dealing with a zombie situation. Pretty sure current UK and US governments could do a worse job though.

would have gave the performance 4 stars but it just irked me the way he pronounced gibberish with a hard G. other than that minor thing (that probably only happened once every ten hours) I thought the narration was decent enough.

spoilers........

Dr Lee is a dick. she's nowhere near as smart as she thinks she is. what the fuck is going on with lighting a fire IN THE DOORWAY THEY WANT TO ESCAPE FROM and just telling people as the place starts to fill up with smoke. She's really patronising to Courtney too, who is the real hero of the group.

I actually ended up hating most of the characters by the end with the exception of Courtney,

don't know if I'll get the rest of the series, but this has been enjoyable enough for the 3 quid I paid for it.
