Summary

Psychologist Margot Scott has a picture-perfect life: a nice house in the suburbs, a husband, two children and a successful career.

On a warm spring morning Margot approaches one of her clients on a busy train platform. He is looking down at his phone, with his duffel bag in hand as the train approaches. That’s when she slams into his back and he falls in front of the train.

Margot’s clients all lie to her, but one lie cost her family and freedom.

A fast-paced psychological thriller for fans of The Silent Patient.

It was OK until

The story was plodding along nicely until I found out the reason why the protagonist was being targeted. Then it just felt too over the top. I did like the way the characters linked together and the ending was quite interesting. Okay for a freebie.

Gripping! Mad and good

Thought it was great, really gripping and binge listened it. Lots of shocking and interesting bits!! Just an FYI from a psychologist that this isn’t how people with these disorders generally behave hahaha (just from a reducing stigma perspective), but really good, would recommend ! :)

Passable thriller

Passable thriller although a little predictable and formulaic. The twist at the end is good but I felt it could have been better set up. However, characters are somewhat thin and the narration irritating although i struggled to pinpoint why - too earnest maybe? several times i wondered whether to perservere but decided to, and am glad I did because the end was the most satisfying part of the book.

Gripping!

All the reviews were right, what a great book. A rollercoaster of a story with believable characters and plenty of twists and turns. The narration was first class. I will certainly look out for other work by this author.

OK as a freebie but predictable

The book is OK with very good narration but the plot itself is predictable with no red herrings to throw you off course so as it goes on concentration is harder to maintain

Avoidable

Boring and predictable. What was the point of the story. It was obvious from the start who the deranged killer , and I use the term loosely, was!! And the main protagonist is so irritating. Wish the murder got her in the end!!!

Fairly predictable plot, interesting twist.

apart from the interesting twist right at the very end there's nothing new here, but it's free and I know many readers will enjoy it.

A bland main character, despite all the potential

I tried to get through my dislike of the main character, but it became tiresome too quickly. I understand why she is written in such an unsympathetic way. She describes her family as if they were pieces of furniture; she is smug to everyone, including her (only?) kind of friend -- all these things are interesting to notice, but there is no hook to keep me on my toes. The death threats to her family didn't work so well because of the unlikable main character, but nothing else happened to counter this effect. It was painfully boring to get through her smug and obsessive inner thoughts, and lusting for a young piece of meat.

Maybe it would have worked better if she really were the true professional who wouldn't obsess over her younger patient after an innocent flirtation... Or if she were evil towards her family. Her behavior then would have been more entertaining to follow.
Unfortunately, she comes across as bland and easy to manipulate. In the end, you end up with someone unsympathetic, weak and boring, so there is nothing to go on.

Still. the ending was interesting, albeit expected.
