Summary

Singer, broadcaster and mother Sophie Ellis-Bextor shares her experiences, insights and reflections on men, music and motherhood.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor's kitchen discos became a source of much-needed escapism, catharsis and sequined joy for a swathe of the population during lockdown. From knackered mothers and fed-up fathers, to cooped up partiers with nowhere to go, Sophie's gloriously chaotic Friday kitchen performances have cheered and revived us.

Now Sophie is bringing that same mixture of down-to-earth candour and optimistic sparkle to her first book. Part memoir, part musings, Sophie will write about the conjuring act of adulthood and motherhood and how her experience of working while raising her five sons has given her the inescapable lesson of how to navigate life in the face of failure and imperfection.

Covering relationships, good enough parenting, the importance of delusion and dancing, Sophie writes about the things that take on greater importance as life becomes more complicated.

From the non-negotiables (solitude, music, glitter) to the unimportant (clean hair, deadlines, appropriate behaviour), this is a book about learning from our experiences and not being afraid to smash a few plates for the sake of what we actually need want and value.

Fantastic bio

Sophie is such a talented singer and nice person! I've been to two of her concerts and followed her during the pandemics when she did weekly concerts from home. Now she is back with an autobiography voicing it herself - great! It's written honesty and with lots of humour. I can't help recommending it to all Sophie fans!

Down to earth

Lovely insight of her life and very interesting career. The life of a pop star isn’t so straightforward! I enjoyed how Sophie read her story so naturally.

Loved SEB and her honest stories!

took a couple of tries (which happens to me a lot on audible) but after getting involved I was hooked. I really enjoyed the honest stories and touching tales of her kids, she's clearly mum first and singer second. After a while, Sophie's story telling is like listening to a friend and it made me realize how many amazing songs she's made too, loved it.

Honest and fun and lovely.

Sophie writes and speaks from the heart, it’s lovely to hear how she’s grown in her career and life, and told so authentically and humbly.

Wonderful

Despite me being 61 I loved it. Listening to your awful sexual experience brought back my own harrowing memory. I applaud you for speaking out! Keep being you. One very amazing lady. See you in Perth!

Such a Fabulous Book!

I thoroughly enjoyed Sophie’s book, especially how she is so open & honest. The book had me gripped from start to finish and Sophie narrates it wonderfully, I could listen to her talk for ever! I didn’t want it to end so will definitely be heading over to her podcast next (& her albums).
