Summary

Long-listed, Audible.com Best of the Year, 2007

Long-listed, Audible.com 100 Audible Essentials, 2007

Audie Award winner, 2008

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Most excellent

The narration is absolutely first class, and the story is, as ever sublime. Words words words.

Fantastic story and narration. Awful execution.

Amazing story, a sci fi classic. The narrator is well paced and allows you to get lost in the story. Although his voices between certain characters could do with a little refining.

But what in all that is holy convinced the producers to have a merry band of actors do voice overs for certain parts of the book, sometimes not even whole chapters!!! To have a narrator establish a character to then have someone do a completely different performance AND THEN flip back to their internal monologue performed by the narrator. My head was spinning like a sandworm near water....

Also this is a windy planet and there is a fair bit of added audio to immerse you into certain scenes, build tension, which I largely enjoyed. But why not invest in some other wind audio rather than the same thing on a loop? Very frustrating.

Anyway, good book, good narrator.

A well performed epic. Perfect for long journeys.

Sometimes the story is a little slow, but I’m pleased to have seen the film first to help me understand the plot. The cast performed the characters very well and brought the story to life. I can understand why this book wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste, but then I enjoy science fiction.

superb

Just as I remember it from 1965, obviously. A world in which to escape, in the best way.

Compelling

I enjoyed this - it’s true there are some strange editing issues, where some characters, like the Barron are 90% voiced by a different actor, and then in some scenes that voice comes in half way through a conversation 😂 but all in all, loved the movie and this adaptation delivered. Just needs that amazing Hans zimmer sound track

Excellent to listen to the original after reading decades ago.

Excellent package all 4 parts well worth the credit. Will put movie into context for the messages that are too upsetting for today’s generation

Absolutely Beautiful

This audiobook has a very immersive experience, I loved that there were background sounds to compliment the reading. Wonderful story! I can fully understand why this is claimed to be the greatest sci-fi novel of all time, and cum understand how this book has inspired so many movies and stories today.
