In the aftermath of a vicious battle between darkness and light, the city of Elantra has emerged victorious. But Shadows continue to haunt every corner of its streets....
Elantra stands strong, but countless numbers of Hawks, the city's staunchest protectors, were lost in the brutal attack. Humans, Barrani, Aerians, Leontines - none of the races emerged unscathed from the defense of the city. Homes were lost, families were scattered - and the outcast Barrani Lord Nightshade is missing from his castle in the fiefs.
Yet as the chaos surrounding the battle begins to wane, Private Kaylin Neya's duties must resume, despite her grief. Called in to investigate a triple murder in a quiet part of town, Kaylin and her companions are soon embroiled in a case that is anything but routine. Evidence of the deadly Shadows that still threaten the city leads to hints of ancient, forgotten magics - and everything can be traced directly to Ravellon, the heart of the Shadows and the darkness they contain.
But it is there that Lord Nightshade will be found - if he still survives.

I have this in a few different formats, it is amazing in all of them, however try not to be driving during the epilogue as I had to pull over and wipe a tear as I got a little emotional, this just shows how good Khristine's reading is. A big thank you to both Michelle and Khristine for a really good performance :D
"Love this series"
Somehow the author makes you think that her theories of time, space, and magic make perfect sense, and you even start to think you understand them while you are reading them. She creates a new reality in this series that is fascinating and engaging. Every time I finish one book, I start waiting for the next.
"love this series."
I love this series. I look forward to the next one eagerly. if you like fantasy this really is a must read or listen to. The naration is wonderful.
"most wonderful..as usual!"
perfect narrator for this perfect series!!! i can not say enough good about this author. there is something special in her thought process that comes across most beautifully in her writing. the revelations about the main character's inner thoughts about herself, her actions and reactions towards her own feelings and ways of thinking, where she was wrong or intolerant, and her acceptance and change make the reader reconsider their own beliefs and errors in judgement. very thought provoking and humbling.
i always have a sense of peace within myself each time i realize ... yes! that's it! ... having your own feelings put into words is so satisfyingly validating, especially as you could not find the right way to express yourself and your thoughts.
because kaylin naya is older now, with ten books before this one, you see more maturity and growth in her. i will say i'm ready for her to get past her months with barron, which badly scarred her and she is still unable to deal with. i enjoy her relationship with severn and lord nightshade and hope the choice, when it comes, between the two doesn't leave the one not chosen with a feeling of loss as i like them both. nightshade does seem to be going down a less than hoped for path at this point. i guess i'm really hoping for a fairy tale outcome for him. although considering the mortal, immortal thing, severn would be the better choice... guess we'll have to wait and see.
khristine hvam will always be the only voice of kaylin naya to me. she does it perfectly.
"The most difficult book."
The only one I didn't love and actually struggled to finish. Too much time on well, time.
"Love this story"
I love the cast stories, I can't wait till the next one. I might be getting all the past books on Audible so I can enjoy them in a different way.
I really like Sagara's work but this one is so choppy and thin on actual story that I can not entirely say I like it. I really like the direction Sagara takes with sophisticated problems of language and diversity. She works hard to reveal the problems any community has with these problems. However, this story carries an interest in perceptual moments and it creates a choppy narrative and her interest in narrative gets lost. It is a surprise since she has stated that the story is primary. The payoff may come in the next story. She has certainly not lost my interest or gratitude for her work. I will continue to read and enjoy the work.
"If only I didn't have to wait!"
I have loved this series from the beginning and the wish there were more.
"I love these novels"
Narration is great. Story is great. I'm always happy when the new Sagara books come out, and I'm happy audible lets me listen while I work. My husband owns the novels, I have the ebooks and audible. :)
"Cast in Honor"
What can I say? I fell in love with the first paragraph of the first book and have been delighted ever since. Khristine Hvam is the perfect narrator for Michelle Sagara's world and I cannot wait for the next one to come out.
"Have enjoyed this series"
I have been listening to this series of books from the local library for a few years. Have now purchased entire series to listen to at my leisure over and over again.
Katlin is a well rounded character and the story is well told and consistent within Elantra.
Kristine Hvam does a great job of narration by bringing the story to life.
Thank you both
