Summary

Written with her trademark deadpan humour, Urzila's memoir is full of great stories about both the big things in life and the little things.

Urzila's accidental beginning in stand-up has led to an incredibly successful career in comedy, with regular gigs on television as well as sell-out shows in comedy festivals across New Zealand and Australia.

But life hasn't always been a bundle of laughs. Urzila talks candidly about her childhood with a great family, apart from her abusive dad, and about growing up in South Africa. She shares crazy but true tales about her OE, her move to New Zealand, coming out, getting married and having children, and her life in comedy.

This is a great listen from one of our most loved and most popular comedians.

The true Urzila

I first read this when it was first published and I thoroughly loved listening to Urzila do the narration. I first saw Urzila when a friend who used to live in Australia told me to watch her and I nearly peed my pants. As soon as I heard she was coming to the UK I grabbed us tickets. The addiction took over and I get so excited when she comes up north to Newcastle. Now when I see her I take a little prezzie and it's always a hit with Urzila. Tour pants go down well. If you love having a giggle pick up a copy but I would say the audible book is so much better. laugh out loud giggles and really interesting. We love you Ursula Carlson 😍❤️

Glad I heard this rather than read it

I couldn't have imagined how some of the Afrikaans words and names should sound so glad I heard them from Urzila, although she didnt sound as relaxed as she appears on stage. A fascinating story that taught me a lot about countries I haven't visited and lives so very different from mine.

Wonderful

Interesting and funny book - I was laughing as I listened. Yet poignant and sad in (short) parts. Well narrated by the author.
Also a very positive book.
