Summary

As a prostitute living in London’s East End, Marie is no stranger to doing what she must to survive. Offered more money than she could ever imagine by a handsome stranger, she agrees to his unusual request to be her one and only client. But it’s a dangerous time to be a lady of the night. The Ripper murders are splashed on every paper and whispered about behind the backs of hands.

In the arms of her client-turned-lover, Marie feels an adoration and acceptance she’s never experienced before. Unfortunately, contentment can’t root out the dark questions clawing their way into the light. Is it possible the man who has stolen her heart also prowls the streets of Whitechapel in search of his next victim?

Consumed by doubt, Marie finds herself questioning the man she thought she had come to know so well. Could he? Would he? Did he?

Interesting read.

I've always been interested in historical fiction. One of the reasons why is because I like to see how the author takes known events and spins a story to it. This could also be a daring thing to do because the author is actually taking known events and can only do so much twisting. That being said I really enjoyed this story. The unique romantic twist on the Jack the Ripper story was enjoyable. I really liked the way the author took the direction of the story. Obviously this is a romance novel, and lots of it. So if you're looking for a steamy read with a twist on historical events, you'll be pleased with this book.

I enjoyed Marie's character a lot. It was definitely great seeing her develop and how she changed her life. I do wish the book was a little longer and the author developed Jackson and Marie's relationship a little more but they felt connected and it did work. I felt like it was pretty obvious who Jack the Ripper was but the ending was still surprising and an interesting way to end the book. I definitely look forward to the second one.

The only reason why I didn't give this book a 5 star rating is due to dialogue and scenery. This book took place in 1888 but sometimes it was really hard to imagine that. I felt like the dialogue didn't really fit the time and there was such a lack of description that it was hard to imagine that this took place in the past. The only reason why I was able to imagine the scenes was because I knew when this took place.

NARRATION: I loved this narration. It was clean and crisp. At no point did I have any issues following the story. The narration really brought more to the story and I would definitely recommend it.

Umm..... WHAT! This book will have you questioning everything and everyone and even in the end you will be wondering. I believe I know who it is, but can’t say for sure.... all I can say is if you like mysteries that may not be solved this is the book for you! I really hope there will be another book in audio soon.

Captivating

Who would think that a story about Jack the Ripper could be sensual and alluring? Amy Cecil weaves a romance around the horrific murders sure to keep you entranced, full of doubt and falling in love. Marie is at a low point. A prostitute making her way, she is propositioned by a handsome rich gentleman to be exclusive to him. Jax is taken by Marie and has to have her. Now with the murders happening, and unexplained absences by Jax, there is doubt lingering in Marie's mind. Is it enough to make her believe he is the murderer? Fast paced, steamy and completely surprising even at the end, we all wonder and we all doubt and we all fall in love. The twist is unexpected and left me wanting to know more and am anxiously awaiting the next story Cecil has for us.

Marina Barrett brings this story to life with an amazing performance. Her accent, her voices and her inflections kept me intrigued the entire time. I loved her portrayal of the story, a perfect fit as the narrator.

What did I just read!!

I was not sure I wanted to listen to this. But it was so good!! Amy Cecil wrote this like she knew what happened!!! I was completely enthralled with this story and these characters!! I am so glad that I decided to listen!!!

Jackson and Marie were captivated by each other from the very first time they saw one another... but is Jackson just biding his time to make her his next victim!?

I encourage you to listen to this!! It is so well written and will make you want to keep listening from the first chapter. Marina Barrett was perfect for this! Her accent and her ability to distinguish each character so well, add to the interesting story to make it an excellent audiobook!!!

Excellent

We experience a number of emotions as we relate to the struggles our main character goes through to support herself. The author does an amazing job of helping us understand why our main character does the things she does and thinks the way she thinks. I was very surprised by the ending. Well written story with unpredictable twist. It is a tad gruesome, but nothing too outrageous.

The narrator did a great job and really helped us get a feel for the time period and location that this story takes place in. First time listening to this narrator and I would listen again.

Enjoyable.

Well written and narrated this book gives a different side of the story of Jack the Ripper in that is follows the story of a prostitute living in Whitechapel at the time of the killings. It is sexual explicit, which I wasn't expecting, and at one point I did wonder exactly what I had downloaded !, but the overall story is good. Good twist at the end and I understand there is a follow up book that hopefully will appear on Audible.

An interesting story and narration

I like the way in which Marina Barrett brought the story to life with her narration, though I had a little trouble with some of the accents not staying steady with their characters.

I found the story to be both interesting and sad at the same time. What I thought I heard at the beginning turned out to be true even though I spent the whole book hoping it wasn't! I thought I'd guessed the twist which when it was revealed I hadn't! I enjoyed the twists and turns and the way the characters interacted.

Worried About Nightmares

Jack the Ripper is credited for killing five victims in Whitechapel. This book follows one of the known victims. Marie's family disowned her after she married someone they forbid her to marry. She is forced to do what she must to survive after his sudden death. I started this book and was excited and nervous because I was convinced it was going to be very creepy and very graphic. It wound up being more erotic than anything. I was still intrigued by the book. It was very intense. It had this pull that I just couldn't resist. Rest assured, the horror and gore is in the book. Stick with it. I really am not sure how to go about stating my opinions on the characters. I wanted to like Marie. I connected with her. I admired her passion greatly. She was just very quick to judge and didn't really take the time to fully think things through. I adored Jax. I can see why anybody would become so smitten with him. I wish the rest of the characters in the story had more of a prominent part in the story. This narrator. I can't even. I had chills down my spine as she did the creepy parts. She knows how to perform and execute a very creepy dialogue. I was terrified! Her name is Marina Barrett. I can't say whether or not I've listened to anything by her before, but I can tell you I'll try to make sure I find and listen to more. This book was intense. It was full of passion and desire. It was also full of blood and gore. I never thought I'd find a book that mixed horror with sex. I never thought I'd enjoy such a book. But here we are. This is a nice and short read. It's definitely not for the faint hearted.

LOVED IT!

Audiobook review. This book had me riveted from the very start. I absolutely loved it! I went in not knowing what to expect and was soon invested in Marie and Jax. Their suspicious beginnings, their unbridled passion, their unlikely love, their conflict and THAT ENDING. I’m still digesting it weeks later.

This was great story building from beginning to end. The plot, characters, prose, pacing, foreshadowing, conflict and climax were executed phenomenally. I couldn’t put it down.

The narrator, Marina Barrett, could not have been more perfect for this story. She did a great job with her accent, tone, pitch, pace and I couldn’t imagine a better Marie.

I am definitely looking forward to what happens next.
