Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Really good way to learn German

The constant repetition of the phrases makes them really stick in your head and by the time you've worked through 5 units you've picked up enough useful phrases to have a reasonable conversation.

Great learning tool

Perfect to learn a new language. Clear and repetitive phrases. Asking you to remember a previous word learnt is a good way of practicing

Good but minimal

The lessons are good but I had expected to learn a lot more than I did. This is very minimal so quite disappointing especially for the price paid. If book 2 is the same and ends up only going over what we have done in book1 then I will not be pleased at all.

An up to date method in learning any language.

This system of learning a language is very successful. It really works. Just do as the guide to lessons tells you and you will succeed in learning a new language. I did German at school, I am half German and only used German at summer times as a kid when we would visit Grandma (Omi) in Germany. I could understand and converse a lot less then. Now, due to the Pimsleur method of learning I have a confidence in really understanding and holding a conversation in German. Very, very highly recommended for all that wish to learn any language in the series of languages.

A great approach to teaching usable German

This is the 3rd language I've used the Pimsleur system for, and I find it works extremely well for me.
While these courses wont make you truly fluent, they aren't intended to; rather they equip you with an extremely useful basic vocabulary and overview of the language.
People learn and retain information in different ways, so I'm sure they're are some that may find the Pimsleur approach a struggle, but for me personally I love them, I often listen to them in the car and I always try to listen to each lesson at least twice before moving on to the next.
Thoroughly recommended.

Great

I play these all the time and have come along way to speaking German, replaying them as you need really does mean you can learn at your own pace...

Good, but very repetitive

This course series is very good, but not much progress is being made over a single lesson or even a series of lessons. One spend the whole 30min repeating the same words/sentences, only to find them again with only a couple of more words in the next lesson. I find that very few new words are being inserted in each new lesson. Maybe it gets more complex at higher levels (currently finishing the Book 2 of level 1), we shall see.

Brilliant

Excellent way to learn a language. Not being an 'auditory learner' I didn't think I'd have much success but by lesson 5 I could recall things much more easily. The great thing is, you can recap as many times as you like.

Good introduction

I liked Paul Nobles approach to teaching but it didn’t have a follow up program. I tried Michel Thomas but wasn’t impressed. Pimsleur seems to have a good balance introducing new vocabulary and reinforcing the old vocabulary. The only downside I can see so far is that it is American but the German speakers are native. Would recommend.

Great

An easy and effective way to learn a new language. I have already used Pimsleur to learn a new language and am now returning to German.
