Summary

Matt Hancock served as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care from 2018 to 2021, leading the UK government's response to the coronavirus pandemic, the biggest health crisis the country, and the world, has faced for generations.

This unique book, based on the author's contemporaneous records of those extraordinary months, candidly recounts firsthand the most important events and decisions as they unfolded throughout this unprecedented global emergency.

Pandemic Diaries provides the definitive account of Britain's battle to turn the tide against COVID-19.

For the first time, Hancock reveals the crucial moments of the struggle to save lives and the race to develop the vaccine. The MP for West Suffolk gives his unique perspective on how the NHS rose to the challenge, recognizing the incredible hard work and sacrifice of so many, and offers an honest assessment of the lessons we need to learn for next time—because there will be a next time.

Enjoyable

An enjoyable listen and actually quite frightening to remember what the county had been through!

Judge the book not the person

Irrelevant of what you think of Matt Hancock this is a fascinating insight into a lot of what went on behind the scenes during the pandemic.
As you would expect he makes a big deal of the things he did well and has lots of reasons to excuse his mistakes. In a similar way to Prince Harry's book Hancock seems genuinely honest about what has happened but it feels like some discussions or "leaked messages" may be left out in order to portray him as positively as possible.
Putting any personal political opinions aside I think anyone would find this interesting (even if a few sections might leave you shouting at your phone in anger when he criticises a person/party/workforce/union... that you like).
Hancock has always been open about his dyslexia and whilst it isn't the smoothest reading of a book he does a decent job. I wouldn't have even entertained the idea of listening to this if he hadn't read it himself.

Pandemic Diaries

I found this book very well written and most informative. I enjoyed Matt Hancock’s narration and felt his account of how he personally dealt with the pandemic was honest and balanced. I would like to thank him for the tireless work he and his associates did in getting this awful virus under control.

Fascinating listen.

If you don’t like Matt Hancock and you don’t like the Conservative Party not sure why you would torture yourself to listen to this. The diary style of the book is very good you picture yourself remembering where you were and what you were doing on that day. Great listen. Make your own mind up.

Interesting Listen

Great work by Matt Hancock and Isabel Oakeshott. Their powerful bond is surely only beaten by his loving marriage to his wife Martha.

Well written and thoughtful reflection

I was dubious before listening to this book. I found Matt gave an honest and open account reflecting on what went right and wrong.

superb!

what an amazing book.. very well written and read by Mr Hancock. my eyes have been opened to how cut throat politics can be. I'm so glad Matt has fought back after everything that has been thrown at him since the pandemic. Matt Hancock and professor Witty really should be awarded for the hard work they put into trying to protect our country during the pandemic time.

Lies, damned lies & statistics

This should be filled in the fiction category. The Delusional ramblings of a mad man.
