Summary

Orson Reid: college freshman, gamer, and quite possibly the legendary boogeyman of the magical world. And you thought your life was weird.

It all started the night Orson kissed his best friend, Elyse, and she kissed him back. Yes, the kiss was life-changing, but in ways Orson never could have imagined. It seems he contracted a "virus" that is making him taller, faster, and stronger. But his life doesn't go completely off the rails until the night Elyse shows up at his house, strips out of her clothes, and shape-shifts into a giant cat - a panther, to be exact.

Now, instead of preparing for his freshman year of college, Orson is tossed head first into a world where shape-shifters, magic, and monsters are real. A world ruled by the secretive Paragon Society, a group that enforces magical law with brutal efficiency.

And if all that wasn't enough for one guy to deal with, Orson may just be the Ollphiest, the legendary monster that even monsters fear.

Entertaining

A great first book of this series, likeable characters and story line, more believable plots than most fantasy & fiction

Surprised

This book really surprised me. I thought it was going to be another dumb vampire and werewolf story but I was surprised with the magic element.

Action packed realism

Please note: My review is more for the whole series rather than just Orson.

This isn’t my usual genre but I’m so glad I gave it a chance! Orson is a good introduction to the Paragon Society series and they honestly get better with each book.

The action is exciting, well paced and had me thoroughly hooked.

The characters in this series are likeable and feel very real, as opposed to a lot of fantasy/sci fi novels where you don’t really know what planet you’re on or what’s going on! It’s definitely real world with a little twist of something extra.

For me, it’s a sign of a great magical realism novel when the main characters are actually shocked by the sudden appearance of smelly ogres at a diner 😂 the story is ultimately very grounded and that’s what makes it so relatable and enjoyable.
