Summary

A robber is dead, and a young woman stands accused.

Not only a witness, Nick is a victim, and he'll need help to keep his assignment on track. His girlfriend Sandra answers the call, but a personal interest draws her into the investigation when the thief’s death turns out to be an overdose.

A Satanic Preist faces off with a televangelist, and both may even be suspects.

Was this an accident? Where did the drugs come from? How did the victim get them? The questions point to one answer, but there is something missing. The key lies in Nick's memory and a single photo.

But will anyone believe him?

He has a concussion. He's behind on his assignment. And even Sandra thinks this time, he may be wrong. Will he convince them of what he knows to be true? Or has his hunch finally led him down the wrong path?

Back to winning ways

This story might be short but it lacks a lot in. I have enjoyed this series so far but found the last couple of books have become a little bit predictable and although happy to listen to them still, I wasn't jumping straight in. That has changed with this book and the author has re awaken my interest and love for the series. What has changed? I don't really know. You still get the sight seeing and a little bit of background about the capital city of the week (although I don't think it was so focussed on food as normal), the phones call home to the parents and boss and of course the police telling him to but out of the investigation. I think it was the fact that this book had an interesting mystery and gave a satisfactory conclusion to the case, where as some of the previous cases the killer got away or you were never told why the death accrued. It also had Nick joined by his girlfriend and they make a great team. I am now looking forward to the next book.
Nick's curiosity is peaked and he makes an unscheduled stop in his tour around all the capital city buildings. Like the cat his curiosity nearly gets him killer when a junkie tries to rob the shop he has stopped at to photograph. He wakes up in the hospital with no real memory of what happened and his girlfriend Sandra by his bedside. He was saved when a teenage girl put her self defence moves into practice taking the robber out. Unfortunately the boy dies in the process and his father the well known televangelist wants her brought up on charges of supplying him with drugs that made him go into the shop in the first place. The girl claims they were both clean and with the mask on she didn't recognise it was her friend. Just where did the drugs come from? This one hits close to home for Sandra and she encourages Nick despite his head injury to help the girl and catch a killer.I
I liked the narrator. He has a pleasing voice and uses it well.

"Question everything"

On his travels around the USA taking photographs of each capital city for the magazine Travel, USA,, Nick always seemed to run into some sort of trouble, but this time trouble ran into him: he was shot and before he'd properly arrived. His girlfriend, Sandra, there to help him out, they continued his assignment together.
The fifteenth in this series of short mystery stories, it's a neat story with really interesting travel information about Oklahoma City landmarks and places in which to eat.
A stand alone episode, worth reading (but not whilst hungry!).
My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Story Origin.
