Summary

In the middle of my beautiful daughters eighteenth birthday party, silence falls as I unfold my speech, my heart bursting with everything I want to say. But when I look down I see a note, and my world stops: She's not who you think she is.

Ruby was our miracle baby. I would have done anything to become a mother, and when she finally arrived, I held her in my arms, looked in her blue eyes and swore I would never let anything harm her. Now she's everything I could have dreamed of. I don't even think about all the years of heartache I went through before she was born.

So when I get the strange warning at her birthday party, I ignore it, hiding it in my bag with trembling hands. Someone is simply jealous of her.

But as I watch my daughter, things I've been trying to ignore come flooding back to me Ruby's odd disappearances, her whispered arguments with her best friend, and a memory from her sixth birthday which still breaks my heart to remember.

I need to know the truth about who she really is, but digging into my daughters secrets might reveal my own. As the party draws to a close and the confetti is swept away, I gather my courage. I've spent eighteen years trying to forget my own mistakes, and it could only take a moment for everything to fall apart.

Do I risk tearing my family apart to keep my daughter safe? Because when my secrets come out, I could lose my precious girl forever.

A completely compelling and heart-wrenching listen about the strength of a mother's love for her child. Perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty, Amanda Prowse and Susan Lewis.

How Many Lies Are Hidden?

My Daughter's Lies by Julia Roberts is a deep dive into the lies told within a small family unit, the ones which they admit to and the ones they don't. Admitting to some will strengthen the bonds, others will likely sever them entirely

Melanie Crawley is an outstanding narrrator and captured each personality perfctly. Highly enjoyable

A note falls out of a speech at Chloe's 18th birthday party. Her mother Melissa, has agreed to do the speech in place of her husband as he really did not want to speak in front of the gathered crowd. "She is not who you think she is". Ever the professional radio presenter, Melissa carries on with the speech and celebrations, but she needs to find out who put this notein the speech for her husband Steve to see and why

Julia Roberts has written a novel that is utterly relatable and reflective of soceity, especially in times of great challenges (the chapter headers are dates in 2023 and 2004) The story is multiple POV and it works really well in respect of the storyline. The key point for me, which daughter is lying and in fact, is anybody not lying?

An outstanding narrative on the lengths people will go to to create and keep their family. Brilliant!

Thoroughly enjoyed

I really enjoyed this audio book. I believed in the characters and related to the mother daughter relationships and family dynamics. Julia Roberts writes people very well! I loved where it went with the story and the ‘did they didn’t they’ aspects of the plot. The narrator was fantastic too. I often base my reviews on how well I could picture it all in my mind and this was like watching a tv drama in my head.

just ok

Nothing special. Didn't really feel any connection with the characters. Struggled to finish. Well written though.
