Summary

Welcome to Willoughby Close...a charming cluster of cozy cottages, each with a story to tell and a happy ending to deliver....

Ellie Matthews has come to Wychwood-on-Lea to find a new start for her and her daughter Abby. But, life there doesn’t start out as idyllic as she had hoped. While Ellie loves her cute cottage in Willoughby Close, the Yummy Mummies at the primary school seem intent on giving her the cold shoulder, Abby has trouble fitting in, and her boss, Oliver Venables, is both surprisingly sexy and irritatingly inscrutable.

But miracles can happen in the most unexpected places, and in small, yet wonderful ways. Slowly, Ellie and Abby find themselves making friends and experiencing the everyday magic of Willoughby Close. When Oliver’s nephew, Tobias, befriends Abby, the four of them start to feel like family...and Ellie begins to see the kindness and warmth beneath Oliver’s chilly exterior, which awakens both her longing and fear.

Ellie knows all about disappointment, and the pain of trying too hard for nothing, while Oliver has his own hurts and secrets to deal with. When the past comes rollicking back to remind both of them of their weaknesses and failings, will they be able to overcome their fears and find their own happy ending?

A bit better than the first

I enjoyed this book better than the first in the series, I think mainly because I've got used to the way the narrator speaks or maybe she just wasn't as bad in this one I'm not sure.
I enjoyed the story a bit more with this one too, there seemed to be a bit more substance to it than the previous one

Good book bad narrator

This is an easy, light listen absolutely ruined by the narrator. I'm sure many won't finish it which would be a shame as it's a lovely story

Easy listening

A predictable and one dimensional love story. I felt there was so much more the writer could explore within the story, such as the relationship between Abby and the lady of the manor.

Why an American narrator?

An American author and American narrator on a story set in the Cotswolds. Words are pronounced incorrectly, wrong terms used and it leads you to believe the main character is American when she isn’t.
Nice story, but a little confusing.

Why a Canadian?

Story was just lovely but for me it was spoiled by a Canadian reading an English book! Other than that I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the books in the series

Narrator is horrendous

Story pleasant, if predictable but the narration is absolutely atrocious. I might listen to more from this author but not if same narrator is used. Whoever made the decision to use Justine Eyre to narrate needs moving to another job.

Worth a listen

I read the reviews and was weary of wasting my time on this book . The narrator isn’t English so her accent and pronunciation of words can feel strange at first . I’ve heard her narrate a previous book so I got passed it . The story was an unusual pick for me I usually read crime thrillers . So it made a refreshing change , this story was about life and how we can change for the worst without even noticing . It learns you there more to life than money . It’s a warm light lovely read / listen . I enjoyed it . It’s was a easy listen . It free so it not going to cost you anything to give it a go .

I really enjoyed this book

This is the second time I've listened to this book & even though I knew the outcome I enjoyed it much more.
Whereas before the accent of the narrator did grate on me, this time I'm getting used to it & because it`s such a lovely series I'm listening more to the story this time.
I would recommend it.

An OK story

Nothing really new in this story and a bit predictable but enjoyable enough. Easy to follow although the American accent of the narrator made it hard to believe this took place in Oxford.
