Summary
A funny, feel-good, festive listen about rediscovering the magic of Christmas - just the thing to curl up with on a cold winter's night.
Every Christmas Lizzie promises herself that things will change. And yet here she is again at the beginning of December, and nothing is different. Her girls have grown up and left home, her husband, Henry, is slumped in front of the TV and she is alone in the kitchen, seeking refuge in the cooking sherry and talking to her Gary Barlow calendar. She’s also been very diverted by handsome new neighbour Marcus, and she knows she shouldn’t be....
So when best friend Ann suggests a weekend away in the country, Lizzie jumps at the chance. Will this give Lizzie some much-needed perspective and allow her to mend her marriage? Or will Marcus prove to be too much of a distraction?

Not your usual cheesy Christmas novel
Absolutely loved it! Was expecting the usual Christmas mush which although lovely can get a bit boring. This was a great story set seeing Christmas and I’ll look out for more by this author

Can’t bare to listen anymore
The narrator was so annoying. I always want to finish any book I download but no not this. The narrator is so annoying and I can’t listen any longer. Story not interesting enough to put up with a minute longer!

yuk.
I could not stand to listen to more than a few minutes of this book. the women's voice was like finger nails down a black board. the book may have been good but I could not find out.

A story about friendships and marriages
I was expecting more of a Christmas story and more focus on the actual escape, based on the synopsis. This is in fact a story that covers just a few weeks around Christmas time, but it is not super festive. There is a lovely Christmas market and some putting up of trees, but overall it is more a story of friendships and marriages.
In this story we see what happens to both Lizzie and her friend Ann's marriages and their friendship when faced with some changes and hard times and because the characters were so likeable I was really invested in their stories.
