Summary
Par un soir d'hiver, alors que Holmes et Watson se trouvent dans l'appartement de Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes décide de narrer à son ami sa toute première enquête, alors qu'il était encore étudiant à l'université. Holmes explique ainsi qu'à cette époque, il était devenu camarade avec un dénommé Victor Trevor, qui l'avait par la suite invité à passer un mois de vacances chez son père, dans le Norfolk. Alors que le séjour avait parfaitement débuté, la quiétude de la demeure s'était rapidement troublée par la venue inattendue d'un homme.
