Summary

The Robots of 2725 have reinvented the gods of mythology! What if these new gods chose to speak with Joanna667, a non-entity, and have charged her with a calling to save the planet? What if Joanna667 was the embodiment of Joan of Arc, transported to this dystopian future where humans are no longer the highest order of life?

Join us in a world where robots reign supreme and humans know they must either augment themselves in order to move ahead or live a quiet mundane life without technology. In a world where the entities have embraced early religions and formed the Techno-Pagan church, casting aside some gods while establishing new roles for the deities of their church.

Can Joanna667, a 16-year-old girl in the lowest tier of the One World Caste System, provide the motivation for the human race to reestablish its dominance over technology before the entities destroy the planet? Or will the strongest heroine in Earth's history fall victim to the new gods' calling and face the flames again?

Entertaining!

Joanna667 is a well-written science fiction book about a dystopian society, One World. Machines, known as entities (sentient robots) govern. Religion has been remade while adhering to contemporary and yet pagan practices. In the heart of it, is the Techno-Pagan church, made from robotic entities and redefined mythical gods. Strict laws are imposed, suppressing mundanes (humans) to a point of a miserable existence. Even in their homes, actions, speech, opinions and ideas are monitored. Failing to comply with stringent and exorbitant laws will result in severe punishment, including death. Mundanes, with no modification (not augmented), fall into the lowest tier of the One World Caste System. The mundanes thirst for change and an avenging angel to stand against tyranny.

Joanna667, a.k.a. Jehanne la Pucelle (Joan the Maid) is a sixteen-year-old girl, chosen by the six new gods. She is warned of a subsequent ripple from removing Charles VII a human candidate from the election ballot. With the gods' guidance, Jehanne embraces her new role and gathers supporters to save the planet from the entities – ultimately, commencing a movement for change. Will the Maid stand against the all-powerful One World Caste System and the Techno-Pagan church? Can she defy the injustices by the corrupt sentients and entities? Will she meet a fiery demise by the hands of the church?

Joanna667 is a unique and refreshing tale. From the very beginning, the parallels between Joanna66 and Joan of Arc are evident. The sci-fi elements (machines vs. men) and the futuristic setting of the plot were written well. I found certain elements to be thought-provoking. JW Scott is a wonderful story-teller; his characters are well-developed and distinctive. His writing was clear and well-paced. I appreciated the clever way he incorporated historical aspects and mythology into a futuristic dystopian society.

If you're looking for something different kind of sci-fi, Joanna667 is a great choice. It was captivating with great characters and good narration.
