Meg Michaels, a bookstore owner, has already walked away from two cheating exes. She's learned her lesson and has her mind set on success - until she gets knocked up. Embarrassed and unwilling to discuss her situation with friends and family, she wears layers to hide the pregnancy.
When Meg gets sick at a party, she's mortified. Even worse, Theo Taylor, the guest of honor, discovers her secret. Theo, an Army medic wounded in the war, agrees not to reveal her condition, and the two forge a bond of friendship that blossoms into love.
Theo is soon filling all of Meg's late-night cravings - and not just the pregnancy-induced ones. But can their love overcome all the obstacles that stand between them and creating a happy family?

I really enjoyed this story.
This is Meg and Theo's story, they are both very determined, strong characters with painful pasts on a journey of love, forgiveness, and healing. This story was easy to relate to, the characters are deep and likable.
Claire Ashby is now on my must read list of authors!
Piper Brown did a great job narrating and really brought the book to life.
“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”
A delightful book. The Claire Ashby has elegantly balanced pure escapism with a few potentially difficult and heavy situations. The characters felt real with real issues. I especially enjoyed how the story sweetly concluded with all the challenges addresses without feeling overly idealistic. For a debut novel, very well done. Piper Brown narrates the story well, with a peaceful lyrical quality that makes the listening experience enjoyable.
"Friends With Benefits - Love This Book 5 Stars*"
Meg Michaels is the owner of a bookstore, pregnant and has two exes that are not worth considering – but for the fact that she is pregnant by one of them. She hides her pregnancy for as long as she can.
At a welcome home party, put on by her best friend, she meets a former Army medic who discovers her secret. Theo (the medic) takes her on as a project. They become friends and before either of them know what they have become intimate – intimate friends.
They push each other away because of their perceived end real fears.
How will they contribute to one another in their journey? Or will they push themselves away from one another?
To me this was a very gentle plot and exploration of returning, injured veterans. Their pride versus the actual physical and mental needs they must let others to help them heal. The compassion without pity that those of us who know nothing about what they have been through. We must include them in order to hear their needs and do our best to help when asked, give time alone when asked, and understand and recognize the differences
Claire Ashby has written a wonderful book and while *I was given this book to listen to in exchange for my review in an unbiased manner. I can say with certainty that I will look for more written by this author and immediately add them to my Wish List.
Piper Brown is an excellent performer. I believe that I have listen to another one of her performances and she is better with each performance. Brown has a way of pulling the emotion out of your heart, feeling and identifying with this spectacularly written book.
Claire Ashby and Piper Brown are a match made in heaven – audio heaven, anyway!
Notes Mature themes, strong language and some descriptions of violence
Overall rating: Five stars for the story, the performance & overall. .
I enjoy leaving reviews, as I know that I read them the reviews of others before I purchase a book. If you found my review helpful in your decision about this book, would you please select yes directly below this paragraph? Thank you so much.
Please consider "following me" here on Audible.com. I purchased a lot of books by authors that I am faithful to. I also have the opportunity to review books in all genres, many that I would not pick up on my own. I have been pleasantly surprised by new authors and narrators. Thanks!
"Theo saved this from being an "I threw my kindle""
Another reviewer shared that although the story was interesting, it was frustrating at the same time because the heroine does STUPID, stupid things - again, and again, and AGAIN.
If it weren't for the hero, Theo? I would have probably ripped out my earbuds and chucked my kindle.
Which would be a travesty, because I love my kindle. I did NOT love Meg. I did not love Meg's brother. Or father. Or Jason. Or Hazel. Or... you know? Save for one character, I don't think I liked any of them. You can say this though: a book that inspires this much irritation withOUT you wanting to quit it has a special quality. I wanted this book because there were so many high ratings. I was provided a copy for free. I was deeply grateful to Theo for saving the day, because he was AWESOME. I felt he needed a better heroine, but he makes it work, and in the end, he is an even better man than when you met him at the beginning and THAT was worth listening for.
"Unusual Love Story"
I got this book via audiobook boom. I loved the way the author portrayed the wounded war vet. Although h has issues he is not portrayed as a guy who does not want help and refuses it. he is his own man in spite of the injuries and he decides that he can help Meg get through her issues. I love the interaction between the main characters and the secondary characters. The narrator was very good and moved the story forward at a good pace and kept my interest. It took me two days to get through the book because I do have a life but it was well worth the time spent listening to the story. The pace was just as the book should have been read and the pauses and stops were all in the right place. Overall this was a good read.
"ADDICTIVE AND HEART-WARMING"
I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.
Piper Brown shows her true professional colors here. A great narrative job.
I was very pleasantly surprised at how close I felt to the main characters. I wanted to hug Theo and bitch at Meg towards the end. The flow of the story made me predict a HEA but the journey provided a lot of unexpected twists and turns. I would have liked to see Meg's relationship more developed between her brother & girlfriend (she did sound like a riot). I get the feeling that maybe we'll see more of them in another book.
Two Thumb Up!
I read this book before so when the audio option came out I jumped on it. I really loved Meg and Theo. Both characters were broken for different reasons but found something in each other. Meg was annoying at times with her attitude but it was understanding because she had issues with feeling worthy of love. I never say this but Theo gave me all the feels. He was a great guy but had issues of his own. I really loved the resolution to this story and enjoyed listening as much as reading.
This was my first book from the narrator Piper Brown.I think she did a great job with the book and look forward to listening to more from her.

"Unusual Love Story"
The story was interesting and frustrating at the same time. The main character had a lot going on for her but made a series of bad decisions leading to major consequences.
Theo is an injured war veteran that is trying to cope with his own demons. He has a lot going on in his life but love still blossoms between him and Meg.
Meg and her brother were abandoned by their mom when they were little. She wants to find her and figured out why she left them.
The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. There was quite a bit of drama, bad decisions and some twists. Overall a pretty good listen.

this story was sweet, full of hope and love. I liked how the characters never gave up. They were an inspiration to overcome their problems and issues. I thought both the narrator and author are very talented. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
What a beautiful story! This was so unexpected. I don’t even remember why I decided to listen to it in the first place. I must have seen it when I was looking at a random reviewer’s comments. Out of curiosity, I looked it up on GR, and the overwhelming positive comments made me curious. Then I was interested in learning how things unfolded with the h who was supposed to be hiding her pregnancy. That sparked my interest. And once I started listening, I couldn’t stop.
This wasn’t the usual billionaire meets young innocent/ambitious working girl. This was a war hero -- an amputee -- and a part owner of a bookstore – two regular people. But talk about issues. There were many unexpected turns and lots of surprises. Totally blew me away. I felt the biggest issue was coming to terms with yourself after your birth mother has rejected you. Learning to say: I’m okay. I love me. I deserve to be loved. As someone who also wanted to hear those words from my mother, you know I was in tears A LOT as I listened to this audiobook. I like how the author also explored who is your true parent – blood vs love as she put the spotlight on three fathers.
Interesting plot and the author immediately sparked our interest zooming in on both major characters. I love when we aren’t misled in the first few pages/minutes of listening, and we got a true glimpse of Theo and Meg from the get-go. Well-developed characters. Great ending with an obvious resolution.
Recommended for those who love m/f romance with some steam, some angst but no drama.
"When you make it home."
I enjoyed this book so much. It make me cry and laugh. Real people with real problems. Most lives are not straight forward. I look forward to more great stories. Will revisit this story many times over in the future. Elisha Nelson
"Really Good Story"
This was just a really good book plain and simple. It pulls you in from the start. An entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story that flows smoothly. While there are parts of the story that were not surprising at all there were several little twists that were really unexpected. A sweet story that deals with some very real issues. This isn't a story of just one relationship but several.
A combination of romance, friendship, abandonment, trust, acceptance and forgiveness with a great HEA.
Meg and Theo meet each other during a difficult time in their lives. They each have issues they are trying to cope with. What starts as an arrangement for convenience soon develops into more.
Meg, for being a smart independent woman makes some decision's she just doesn't seem to think through first. Maybe it's pregnancy hormones getting in the way of clear thinking at times.
Theo, while a great guy also made some questionable decisions. He had his reasons which I understand but… wow…. that coarse of action was heartbreaking.
Great cast of characters who are all dealing with relationship issues in one way or another. It's not just Meg and Theo's life you get pulled into and interested in, it's everyone's.
This is one of those books you will listen to more than once. Hopefully Cortez will get a book.
Piper Brown did a great job with the narration. Pleasant voice. Easy on the ears. Clearly spoken. Nice even pace. Really good character voices. She was able to make you feel all the emotions of the characters. She brought the story to life through her narration. Very enjoyable.
