Vernal is the first novel in The Royal Protector Academy series. A dangerously exciting and darkly romantic tale that will take your breath away. It can be heard as a standalone trilogy, or after the best-selling Revelation Series. Intended for mature listeners 18+ due to language, mild violence, and sexual situations.

Vernal is an easy, enjoyable read. Though it has an otherworldly premise, the story doesn’t focus much on that and instead focuses on the ‘forbidden love’ budding relationship between Tristan and Serena. The author had me seriously rooting for the two of them, despite a huge plot twist that I did NOT see coming (nice work!). I also really enjoyed many of the secondary characters in this book.
My only complaint is that while Vernal is listed as book #1 in a series, it doesn’t do a great job introducing its world and characters. Apparently, there’s another series (Revelation) that’s helpful to read first, so maybe that’s why initially I was somewhat confused in this book. Despite that - great book and I look forward to reading book #2 to see what becomes of Tristan and Serena.
"Serena and Tristan's story is amazing!"
These narrators were completely right for this story. It never gets easier to hear certain parts that break my heart . I can't wait for more of Tristan and Serena's story. Vernal was an amazing read!
"LOVED! Need book 2 NOW!"
Tristen and Serena's story has me wanting to know more about them, more about the world that Randi Cooley Wilson has created.
There is a series before this one that more than likely has all of the world building in it. I read the first book of that series a while ago. I hate to say that I didn't care for the first book and therefore, never moved forward with the series.
Well Vernal has definitely ended that. I will be rereading book 1 and finishing the series while I wait for book 2 in this series.
I am thrilled to find another PNR that isn't written for my 14 year old daughter.
"Randi Cooley Wilson does it again!"
I Laughed so hard at this book people probably thought I was crazy! This book had exceptional highs and lows and the characters were full of life. I didn't think I would like this series after the first one, because I didn't think I would be able to love the characters as much as the original series, but here I am in suspense to read more and loving every second of this book. It was well thought out and had me laughing and crying. I can't wait or the next book!
"Vernal was such a magical sexy read!"
Serena and Tristan were excellent characters that kept me invested in their story from beginning to end. I loved Serena's defiance because it wasn't motivated by being careless but rather she just liked to toe the line. Tristan was just amazing but his he shocks me completely at one point in the story. This was my favorite moment in Vernal "I like you Serena, I like you to Tristan I want to keep you, I want to be kept by you." Vernal definitely had some epic moments that left me feeling completely unnerved from how things would turn out. The narration was really great clear and concise. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this story I cannot wait to read the next one to see what happens next.
"Gargoyles...what's not to love?"
I own both the audio and the print version and both versions are special in their own right.
I enjoy the blend of romance and fantasy.
Tristan is by far my favorite of the characters. I enjoy broody sarcasm.
Gargoyles...what's not to love?
"Forbidden love at its finest"
This book had me guessing through out most of it why they couldn't be together, why was their love so forbidden. Tristan is totally my type of book boyfriend, he's a total bad boy but shows his heart when it comes to Serena. Serena on the other hand seems bad ass but sometimes shows her age and spoiled life in the things she says and does. Watching these two together gives me such great hopes for the next book.
I enjoyed the world created By Randi Cooley Wilson but I do with I started with her other Revaluation series first as this is a spin off of that series. This was my first book by Randi and I am going to go back and start from the beginning so I have a better understanding of the world. Don't get me wrong this book is a standalone.
I loved the story but the voice acting was a little off for me. Now this is a new to me author, as well as the voice actors, but I think it could have sounded a little bit better to fit the story. I may skip this series in audio but definitely picking it up in book.
This was my first book by Randi and I loved every second. I'd never had a chance to read/listen to a story related to Gargoyles and loved how it connected with other beings including angels.
The story captured my attention at the very beginning and I never drifted, as I couldn't get enough of Tristan and Serena. They were not the normal love story, and gah the end left me needy. One thing I loved is that the author incorporated sign language and brought to life a fun, strong character who had a vocal disability, but played an important role.
The scenes were hit and full of emotion. Lorenzo Matthews was fantastic. Great pacing and emotion in his portrayal of the characters. Katie, I believe I've heard her under a pseudonym and can sometimes sound over the top with her delivery, until she is speaking in first person.
Nevertheless, after increasing the narration speed, it was perfect. This was a 4🌟 dual narration. Can't wait for the next book!
"Story was Great, Performance was lacking"
I would recommend this to a friend, but only if they are more focused on content over performances. It was a very unique story with some interesting and new things in the paranormal space to come up.
Serena - she was infuriating and lovable and smart and fun.
The pacing was far too slow in the female voice. Additionally, the random appearance of accents just didn't make any sense and really detracted from the book. Unless the accent is coming from someone who has the accent naturally, it really doesn't work.
Yes - but spoilers!
This was a great first book to a series that I'm now hooked on! I do plan on reading the other books, but in ebook or paper format. I was really distracted by the performances on this book, however the story itself unfolded very nicely. I loved the sexual tension that was ever present. Plus, who doesn't like to see powerful characters do powerful things! The whole 'chosen one' concept gets a little old after a while, but there was enough going on in the periphery of the story that it works and you don't notice it so much. The characters are very three-dimensional and the plot is original. Definitely give this series a go. A friend recommending speeding up the pace on the female narrator to 1.25 - I agree. It really helped to get through those pieces of the book much more enjoyably.
