Summary

Can your favorite hockey players finish their first season together undefeated?

Five months in, NHL forward Ryan Wesley is having a record-breaking rookie season. He's living his dream of playing pro hockey and coming home every night to the man he loves - Jamie Canning, his longtime best friend turned boyfriend. There's just one problem: the most important relationship of his life is one he needs to keep hidden, or else face a media storm that will eclipse his success on the ice.

Jamie loves Wes. He really, truly does. But hiding sucks. It's not the life Jamie envisioned for himself, and the strain of keeping their secret is taking its toll. It doesn't help that his new job isn't going as smoothly as he'd hoped, but he knows he can power through it as long as he has Wes. At least apartment 10B is their retreat, where they can always be themselves.

Or can they? When Wes's nosiest teammate moves in upstairs, the threads of their carefully woven lie begin to unravel. With the outside world determined to take its best shot at them, can Wes and Jamie develop major-league relationship skills on the fly?

Warning: contains sexual situations, a vibrating chair, long-distance sexytimes, and proof that hockey players look hot in any shade of green.

Could've been better.....

Think I'll leave my review at 4 stars. Yes, it was lovely to listen to Jacob and Teddy again, reprising their roles as Wes and Jamie BUT I don't know, they just seemed to give off a bored vibe sometimes, and guys....can I please just stress that a French Canadian guy whose name is Gilles is not pronounced Giles or Gills. Gilles is really quite simple to say, honestly. And yes, I hold my hands up and admit to copious tears during the latter part of the story...just goes to show you what a big sap I am!!

I think I like this more than the first one?

I don’t know why, but I really loved seeing Jamie and Wes figure things out over a tough year. All their miscommunication felt completely relatable despite the non-relatable circumstances. Their relationship felt genuine and real here in a way that the first one didn’t—because it was the ‘after the HEA’ and looked beyond their ‘surreal summer fling turned relationship.’ All their bumbling was completely understandable. Their commitment felt more grounded ,and their love long-lasting after this book. I want more than a tiny novella but I also hope it doesn’t come because it inherently implies more conflict between Wesmie. And I love the way this ended. It was, indeed, perfect. Why ask for more than that, right?

brilliant

It was a slow start but got there, fantastic love story, the drama that appeared made the love wes has for Jamie more apparent and it was heartfelt.. I would love to have a book on Blake alone, his character had me in stitches.

Read the book instead

I thoroughly recommend anyone to read this book (after Him, if you haven’t read it), because it’s a brilliant follow up. But don’t listen to the audiobook. On the upside, the narrator performing Wes didn’t sound as bored as he did during Him, but the narrators don’t appear to have talked about how the characters will sound. Jamie’s Wes, therefore, sounds completely different to Wes in the first person.
And as others have mentioned, ‘Gilles’ is not pronounced ‘Giles’. Every mention of it is jarring.

Overall good but I struggled to follow the POVs

A good story. It had the predictable character beats of a romance novel, but everything was well set-up and nothing felt contrived. The exploration of depression was extremely well done - the fact that it was shown rather than you simply being told was excellent.

I did have a slight issue with the performance in that I often lost track of the POV, and sometimes got confused about why the characters were where they are. This was a bigger issue in book one when the characters had more similar settings, but it took me until half way through book 2 to realise why - the two voice actors didn't voice their own characters during the other character's POV chapters. The consequence of this was four voices for two characters and since both of them put on a gravely voice for the "other" character, it was closer to three voices and my my brain associated the gravely voice with being a specific character (i.e. you had the POV talking to a gravely character in every chapter).

My only actual complaint about the writing was that the internal dialogue of the main characters was often very objectifying of their partner - e.g. "who I want to fuck", "where I stick my dick" and "the fact I like dick". During book 1 these were in the context of exploring sexuality, but when they continued into book 2 when it was about exploring the relationship - it felt at odds with the narrative and after a while I started thinking "no, who you love". That said, I never realised there was an equivalent to 'shouting at the TV' for audiobooks... so that was an experience.

Perfect

This was absolutely perfect I loved the book and it’s even better in audio the two narrators couldn’t have been more perfect for Wes and Jamie. One of my favourite books/series

4.5 stars

I liked this book more than I liked the first. The characters felt as if they had relaxed into who they were meant to be. Also I like a little drama and this book had enough to make me a happy reader.

Blake = bestie goals. I’m desperate to read his book.

I enjoyed both books Him and Us as these are the first stories I have listened about two guys and twinned with their hockey life

I liked the storyline about being gay and the issues that they had to deal with. The sexual side with gay men was new to me but the narrators were amazing showing their love for each other. I loved the ivy years books and hope there will be more to come in the future. Thank you

This book was an absolutely perfect emotional rollercoaster from start to finish with delicious spice splattered throughout and, it’s beautifully narrated. All you could ask for. I loved it

Difficult life

When you are in a relationship and have a job that is male oriented lif can be difficult and i guess this is about as bad as it gets. This story covers hideiing away and the stress it causes. This is well written and narrated.
