Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was. Or, I should say, recognize him for who he was.
I've loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He's been my everything for the last 22 years. I've loved him through every girlfriend he's ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I've loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he's acted like I'm a stranger.
My name is Danielle Reid, and it's time for me to get my man. Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say...it's going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.

"Wow, this has got to be the best"
This is a romantic, erotic and a bit of action.
Isebella and Axel, from Corps Security, Book 1, have a daughter Danielle aka "Danny"
Cage and Melissa from Corps Security, Book 2 have a son Cohen from there you will remember a girl by the name "Danny Girl" that told Cohen he was hers.
Here is the beginning to an awesome new series. Although this books I have to say is great and thee story line make me want to say, "Full Circle". It is amazing that two people can find love the same way their parents did without a horrific past. Instead Danny has to convenience Cohen they are meant to be. When Cohen finally gives in right before he is deployed, he leave his Danny girl with more than a memory of him. With a stalker on the lose Danny is in danger, and Cohen is on a special mission.
Love this book, and knowing that this is a continuing story from the children of our favorite characters in Corps. Security.
This book could be a stand alone, but you really gotta love the parents of these two.
"Satisfyingly sexy friends-to-lovers romance"
This is the second Harper Sloan book I have read. My first experience of this author was her romantic standalone novel Perfectly Imperfect. I bring this up because what I chalked up to bad editing in that book now seems more like the author's style of writing. I found that book to be choppy and missing what I thought were essential parts of the story detailed only with brief, passing mentions.
It comes down to this: as the story unfolds a reader wants to see certain parts of the plot reveal...there is an anticipation that builds. One wants to see specific characters realize and react to these big moments in the story. For me, I find that Ms. Sloan constantly disappoints me. It almost feels like this author goes out of her way to write as unpredictably as she can to set herself apart. In the end, the smoke and mirrors feel like a gimmick rather than a clever writing style.
Onto the narration. Shirl Rae is awesome as always. She voices both sexes convincingly. I cannot however say the same for Sean Crisden. Don't get me wrong - he performs male voices well. I like his native voice. It is his attempt at female dialog that makes me cringe. Every female character sounds like she is whining. It gets hard to listen to.
The story itself is solid. The romance is sweet, angsty, and the sexy times are scorching hot (hint: male genital piercings - PLURAL)! The sub-plot of a crazy stalker kept this book from being another in a long line of friends-to-lovers romantic novels. But, as I mentioned earlier, you will definitely be left feeling like you needed more.
Unexpected Fate gets a solid 3 stars for the story and 4 stars overall thanks to Shirl Rae's narration. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I will continue on with the series. I don't want to be let down by less than stellar plot reveals a third time.
"Audible performance let's this story down."
Whilst I enjoyed Dani & Cohen's story, the audible performance let the story down. Cohen sounded like an old man so there is a definite disconnect with his character. And I found that Dani sounded whiney.
I loved this book! Cohen as a daddy is so cute. I also love his overgrown ape attitude! Axel over the top protective overgrown ape he his the best daddy ever although I felt like he was going to kill Cohen a few times.
When I started to listen to the book , I was captured from the beginning.
I felt as though I was part of the characters lives.
Enjoyed and hope everyone else will listen and feel as though they are part of the story.
Thank you Harper Sloan for continuing the story of this group of friends and their kids. Love the suspense in every one of these stories
"I loved it but..."
I loved the start to this series. I thought that the drama was a little forced. What I mean is, that dramatic moment and the parts leading up to it felt forced. However, it was great to read about Cohen and Dani. I can't wait until book 2!
"Very good story"
A wonderful love story. With trails and surprises . Read it today. Danny girl is such a fighter
I enjoyed the book overall. It got a tad boring for me at periods, but was able to hold my attention most of the time. The romantic scenes were very well written and I can only wish there had been a few more of those thrown in somewhere. I rate it a B+
i lover harper sloan and the narrators are great readers. i recommend all her books
