Publisher's Summary

The latest instalment of the beloved and best-selling series - as endearing and delectable as ever!

Business is slow at the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, so at Mma Makutsi's suggestion, Mma Ramotswe is persuaded to take her first-ever holiday. But just as she's about to depart, a new client arrives: a young woman whose father was considered a hero in Botswana but whose reputation is now being called into question.

Mma Ramotswe almost cancels her trip, but Mma Makutsi is adamant that she and Charlie have the situation in hand. Precious can't relax, however, if she doesn't know what's going on at the agency, so she enlists Charlie to be her eyes and ears while she's away. But Charlie may not be an altogether reliable emissary, particularly with much of his attention devoted to his newly adopted dog.

In the end it's an investigation that will affect everyone at the agency and a reminder for us all that ordinary human failings should be treated with a large helping of charity and compassion.

    "Always a pleasure"

I always enjoy stories about Precious Ramotswe but this is the first audible book I have listened to. I have to say that the narrator is superb. I live in Africa so I know good southern African accents when I hear them and she was outstanding, not only with accents with the characterizations as well. An excellent listen!

    "Fruit cake and feminism"

Transported to Botswana again for another wonderful, familiar tale from the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. I don't know how Alexander McCall Smith comes up with so many different scenarios with the same characters but these books never get boring, this one has a particularly unexpected twist! Narrated as usual by Adjoa Andoh who gets all the voices spot on. Fans will not be disappointed.

An excellent story that may seem slow at first but builds and builds and well worth the wait. So well read. Better than reading yourself! Anytime anywhere. Brilliant.

"Good to get another MA Ramotswe"

Great to get a regular update of these positive well informed and wonderfully performed stories . For those of us who live in and know Africa they give us hope . This one isn't as skilful as others have been sadly It kinda meanders about looking for a central theme . But I wouldn't have missed it . Here's to the next , hope that's as much fun.

    "Deceptively subtle"

The author never disappoints despite writing about totally different cultures honestly but sympathetically. He seems to be able in what may be parts of a conversation transport the reader from the dusty streets of Botswana to the old and rarefied world of Edinburgh st.
