RITA finalist Julie Klassen has earned numerous awards for her popular historical romance novels. In The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, pampered Margaret Macy flees her home in London to avoid marrying a dishonorable man. Now, with no money and no place to stay, Margaret does the unthinkable: she takes a job as a housemaid in the home of two brothers - both of whom are former suitors. As an "invisible" observer, Margaret realizes she may have misjudged one brother and wonders if it's too late to win his admiration.

"Only just makes it as a Romance novel !!"
This was a good enough story and very insightful as to the servant's lives and duties but it just didn't have enough romance in it to ring my bell - infact it wasn't until the very very very end (I'm talking last chapter!) that they got together.
If it's a history lesson you want then this is your kinda book but if you're looking for historical romance then pass on this one and look elsewhere.
Would I listen to it again - No
Worth the credit - No - way too slow for me
"Interesting and enlightening"
I would recommend this book to friends. I is very interesting to hear about the upper class in relationship to the servants. Servants were very loyal. I found it very interesting.
When she was learning about how the servants worked so hard and found how unappreciative she had previously been
Several scenes were really good but I can't say I had a favorite scene. I enjoyed all of them.
I would have liked to listen to it in one sitting however life does go on.
I really enjoy historically based novels. For some reason they grab my attention more than others. I enjoyed this book very much
"Downton Abbey mixup!"
I was listening to this read at the same time as watching the series 3 of Downton Abbey. I kept getting the story lines mixed up. They were so similar in the servants quarters. If you love Downton... this will make for a most enjoyable read.
I loved the Masquerade ball at the end.
"Not your typical, one drama romance."
Complicated, enchanting, hope for more!!! I will keep buying by this author, and I love the narrator as well!!
"I enjoyed it."
The audible book was good with good narration. My only complaint was it seemed a bit long. Seemed well researched as far as relationships between the help and the wealthy went. I've enjoyed all the books that I have read by this author.
"Sweet, easy listening"
As in real life, it takes stress in life to grow. It usually takes a bit more time than this but she had a good father early on. Well worth listening.
this is my all-time favorite book. I wasn't into reading it all until I pick this book up one day because I like the cover art. I have read it so many times and now I listen to it when I'm on the road. The narrator is wonderful. The offer is extraordinary I love all of her books.
"Love Julie Klassen"
Julie Klassen's book are engaging, intelligent and romantic. I enjoy her work so very much.
There wasn't a ton of direct interaction between the H and h , but the indirect showed how a love can really develop based on a person's character. I loved both characters and the fact that Margaret had to disguise herself as Nora.
Remarkably dull. And I don't mind a slow story but I skipped half of this one and I don't think I missed a thing
