Helen Ross, a twenty-nine-year-old biologist, is sent to a sleepy Rocky Mountain ranching town to defend a pack of wolves from those who want to destroy them. For in Hope, Montana, a century ago, the wolf was slaughtered to extinction, and though they're now protected by law as an endangered species, the old hatred runs deep.
Alone in this hostile place, bruised by a broken love affair, Helen struggles for self-esteem and survival, embarking on a dangerous alliance with the son of her most ferocious opponent, the brutal and charismatic Buck Calder.

"The Horse Whisperer...conveyed a genuine and personal emotional charge which resonated with millions of readers. The Loop confirms that [Evans] is that rare phenomenon, a natural storyteller." (Mail on Sunday)
"As good as Evans's first novel, The Horse Whisperer...total entertainment." (Daily Telegraph, Australia)
"Drama...power...passion." (The Times)
I've read this book twice now, and decided to reread it via audible. It's one of my favourite books and Nicholas Evans is my favourite author. Compelling, dramatic, heart wrenching, heart warming and relatable. As ever Evans' detailing is brilliant and you'll be drawn in by each of the characters including the four legged ones. I've thoroughly enjoyed listening to this novel a second time and have been just as drawn in and unable to switch off as I was the first time reading.
