About this listen

For the first time, the girls caught sight of the turreted, castle-like building that would be home for the next nine months, the four towers of the main houses nestled in the hills, with the cliffs behind, leading down to the still turquoise sea.

Maggie loves teaching English at beautiful Downey House but she is less keen on planning her wedding to dependable Stan. Instead, she's working on ignoring her crush on David McDonald, who teaches English at the local boys' school.

Just as Simone and Fliss have become friends, Zelda arrives to upset everything. Zelda is loudly, glamorously American, and she's full of ways to improve life at boring school. Soon, quiet, mousy Simone is undergoing a makeover. And Fliss is about to jeopardise everything to impress a boy.

In a new year at school, the girls of Downey House will be breaking all the rules - and not all of them will escape unscathed.

I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy the narration from a teenagers point of view but in fact it works well. The story features realistic characters and in particular the reader really understands Maggie's position and dilemma.

Great Follow Up to "Class"

Don't like the ending would like a conclusion how many books can Maggie's love life be dragged over!

Not impressed with non ending

Wasn’t mad about the first book but easy reading so thought I would give this one a try, all rather predictable with a very disappointing ending.

If it hadn’t been Jilly Bond’s narrative I probably would have given up.

Disappointing ending!

I love Jenny Colgan books but this one left me very disappointed. Sudden abrupt end. I thought I’d skipped a few chapters in error. Feel conned into having to wait and buy the next book in the series!

Overall I was disappointed with this follow up book. I couldn't comprehend why the author had continued with the very wushu-washy characters that played the book out into a nothing ending. Not my usual take on Jenny Colgan who has entertained me with her books in the past . Note, Jilly Bond is a really good narrator and gets her voice covers judged very well .
