Summary

Women are missing and dying in the Triangle area of North Carolina. One woman holds the key to why. With the conclusion of the Y-Man murders nine months ago and her resignation from the FBI, former Special Agent and Behavioral Analyst Rainey Bell has finally found peace and contentment she never thought possible - even if she remains a bit paranoid. Her wariness is justified when a monster from her past rears his demonic head. Rainey has faced death and evil before - alone. Now it’s different - she has a family to protect, her own. Only Rainey can keep them alive. Or can she?

One of the better lesbian authors out there

The Rainey Bell novels are well written books, they have good plots and contain enough romance *without* falling into that trap of using sex that just seems to be a filler for a story without adding anything to a plot.

I also find RE Bradshaw one of the more professional lesbian writers out there, and that is also reflected in the quality of the editing.

The moment I saw that the second of the Rainey Bell books had been added to the audible store I instant purchased it, and I hope that the rest will follow because I would add them to my audible library without a single hesitation. In fact, I hope all RE Bradshaw books get added as I would be happy to buy them all.

The narrator was not somebody I had heard before, she's not as good at including the range of vocal inflections that some narrators have to help you recognise which character was talking, but she's not as bad as some I've heard.

A detective story foremost

Audible do this odd thing where they release the second or third novel in a series before the first. That is the case here. It makes it harder to enjoy the novel without the detailed background of the first, even if the author has back filled a lot of the first novel. This is mostly a detective novel with a strong female lead. Its very well written and an engaging detective story. It does has a female relationship in it, but it is primary a detective story. Its kinda not for me really I don't mind gentle detective stories, this is darker with a serial killer who does pretty gruesome things. Some images I would prefer not to have and still stuck with me two weeks later. Although its not my thing I know many like this genre. Its very well written and a good story with a strong female lead, so I rate it highly, but not really they type of story I would have selected but I may read another one, if Audible decide to release the the first, but really I would prefer to avoid these darker detective stories. Ive still intentionally not seen Silence of the Lambs.

Awesome

All the characters are superbly described, I had a picture in my mind. Each event was well thought out and I long for a couple of similar characters to enter my lfe.

A great thriller

This is a well written well paced thriller and well narrated. The second book in the Rainey series but works very well as a stand alone book too.

Rainey Nights

Would you try another book written by R. E. Bradshaw or narrated by Shannon McManus?

The story starts of well but then becomes predictable and rather boring. It's a shame as the thriller side of the book was intriguing to begin with but then falls apart. It was overly descriptive for my taste and when I heard the word 'always' being repeated I wanted to scream. I will not be rushing to buy any more of Bradshaw's books.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration was fine

If this book were a film would you go see it?

No
