Publisher's Summary

Jessie Kincaid doesn't plan to follow in his three older brothers' footsteps, which seems to include being bachelors. There might be twice as many men as women in their town, but there are still other ways to go about finding, or competing, for a wife.

Jessie begins writing Sarah Engle in hopes that she will become his mail order bride. Even though there are miles between them, he feels connected to her. He sends her money, along with a stage coach ticket, to come see him so that they can be married.

Not everyone is happy with their decision to wed. When the preacher said, till death do you part, did he mean literally? Or can a mail order bride and her groom truly have a happily ever after ending?

Mail Order Brides series:

  • Jessie's Bride
  • Montana's Bride
  • Caleb's Bride
  • Marshall's Bride
  • Husband of the Bride

    "Simple, fictional novel"
Would you listen to Mail Order Brides: Jessie's Bride again? Why?

Not really, since it's a novel which you only really need to hear once and because it's rare for me to listen to the same thing again, read a certain book twice, watch a film for the second time... That's just me, and doesn't reflect the nature of this audio book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

This is a tough question, with the novel being so short I don't think I know any of the characters that well. But when it comes right down to it, I'll say Marshall because of the way he looks after his younger brother.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The female voice. But I'll give him credit since Sarah cried an awful lot, so it must have been difficult.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I suppose so, since I completed it relatively quickly. I thank the author for a short, simple story.

    "A little nugget"

Susette Williams achieves what she set out to do, which is to provide a sweet short story. This is a little nugget of a story, which still manages to provide all the historical Western romance fixings. It is perfect for someone who likes the genre but doesn't have much time to dedicate to a longer story.

    Any additional comments?

This was a short listen but in the tradition of great short stories. Everything that was needed was there. Main characters were likeable. There was no miscommunication or drawn out hand-wringing to stall the story. The narrator was warm and friendly. I may just have to get the entire series!

"Jessie's Bride was a Really Good Mail Order Short"

JESSIE'S BRIDE was a great Mail Order Brides story. It was probably the best one I've listened to although I like them all. These are clean romance novelettes. This one had a good twist toward the end. I didn't like Sarah's pa and was hoping he'd change but nope. SUSETTE WILLIAMS did a great job writing this short story and I hope to listen to MONTANA'S BRIDE as well. I liked the excerpt at the end.

JEFF HARMS is a new narrator for me and I loved his voice. He did a super job reading this story and had great voice inflections. I really enjoyed his performance and hope to hear more from him in the future. Great work from both.

    "Wonderful, sweet romance"

--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

This book is exactly what Susette Williams says it is. The perfect length to enjoy when on the run. I walk everyday, and this book was the perfect escape for my hour walk. Jessie Kincaid is the youngest of four boys, but the first to get married. He sends for Sarah, a 17 year old mail order bride. she is beautiful, sweet, is in love with Jessie, but has a horrible father. The characters in the story are very well, developed, especially for being so short. You get a real sense of family when you meet Jessie's brother, Marshall and his mother. The outcome of this story is a little surprising, but leaves you wanting to dive into book two!

Jeff Harms is a wondeful narrator. His voice is soothing and great for books like these. He makes yiu feel at home.

    "Sweet story"

Such a sweet story and easy read/listen.

Just goes to show that there must have been something to the 'Mail Order Bride' system because like arranged marriages, it seems to work.

Here we have two people who write letters to each other and who have never met, falling in love, meeting and getting married. After a few hiccups they live happily ever after.

I found it very interesting hearing a male voice reading a 'love story'. What a novel idea - well read - well done!

"Short Sweet Romance Start of a Great Series-Jessie"

👤 Jessie Kincaid is the youngest of four brothers. While his brothers are happy being esteemed bachelors in the wild West. He wants someone to share a life with and start a family of his own.

Jesse begins corresponding with Sarah, with a little help. Before they know it he sends her money for a ticket to move her West to become his wife!

There is more to the story, but I'm unnwilling to share anymore because I do not want to spoil it for anyone.

Jeff Harms is a great performer and does this four-star star book justice with the four-star narration.

Note: This is where I usually write any warnings for language, etc. There is no need to worry about any of that. It is a great little novel that will keep you wondering.

*I was given in exchange for my review. I cannot wait to listen to the next book in the series.
