Grace Breive is strong and independent because she has to be. She has a wee daughter to care for and, having lost her parents and husband, has no one else on whom she can rely. Driven from the only home she has ever known, she travels to Castle Sutherland to find a grandmother she never knew she had.
As Laird Sutherland's heir, Bram Sutherland understands his obligation to enter into a political marriage for the good of the clan, but he is captivated by the beautiful and resilient young mother.
Will Bram and Grace follow the dictates of their hearts, or will echoes from the past force them apart?

This brought out every emotion in me. It was soul ripping but exactly what happened in that time period. Very interesting.
"A Wonderful Story!!"
I absolutely loved this book! I couldn't stop listening to it, and was sad when it ended.
The story kept you engaged the entire time. The characters really touched you and made cheer for them especially Grace. Well done
I loved the characters. the story was great. it was a little to religious but not over kill. I would recommend this book despite the tone. the narrator was fantastic.
"I love this book! "
The characters are loveable because of, not in spite of, their flaws. personalities are distinct, and the story and reasoning was so real that I came to almost hate certain characters, but came to understand and forgive them. The narrator was wonderful, and the story had a way of wringing out a balance of emotion from me as I experienced this story. I felt like I was watching a movie.
I finished the book with the only regret being that the book was over. At the same time, hope flares...there could be a sequel. After all, Anis and Michael need a story!
"How Have I Missed This?"
In all my historical romance phases, I've missed Giltenan's books. Until now. This book was excellent, having all the components that make this genre good. So glad I listened to it on audiobook!
"Loved this book!"
Great story and narrator. I cant wait to enjoy another story from this author. Would highly recommend this book.
I really like this Book and I am glad I have will
buy more of this author.
I really liked this story, the heroine went through a lot. I became extremely angry 75% of the way through this story I didn't know if I could finish listening to it. I contacted the author she was extremely pleasant and very helpful, she suggested that I would be happy with the story if I continued to listen to it. The story is about the sruggles and heartache the H and H went through and how they over came the obstacles. I finished the story and was glad I did. I will continue to follow this author she is a great author who tries to put real life events in her stories and wants the listener to experience what the H and H are going through. I gave the story 4 stars because of the spot in the story that caused me such strong emotions and heartache. I recommend this story to listeners who like a real life story with characters that can and will overcome the obstacles for love. Thank you.
"such a rollercoaster"
6.5hrs into the story and.....
oh dear goddess i'm enjoying the book but i'm ready to scratch out my eyes because of all the damn angst and drama. I have NEVER been so infuriated by a book that i was enjoying...lol. Marks of a good author but HOLY SHIT!!
back to the book.....
ok all done. WOW Talk about a rollercoaster of emotion. I think I felt it all. Anger, happiness, sadness, etc...
The mystery of who Grace's maternal family ties was wrapped up in the last hour or so of the book. I kinda expected more from the island clan. I swear Bram's parents made me want to go ape shit on them. Very entertaining listen.
