Editor reviews
The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy series written by E. L. James spent a record 50 weeks on the international best-sellers lists and is now a major Universal Pictures film starring Dakota Johnson. This unabridged audiobook flits between erotica and romance and has been enticingly narrated by American actress Becca Battoe. These books were a phenomenon that swept over the world in a colossal tidal wave, leaving millions of fanatical women breathless, flushed and addicted beyond measure. It is a heart-pounding, compulsively good listen not to be missed. Available now from Audible.

Lovely story
I have listened to this story twice now and would happily listen to it again. I found it quite emotional to listen to from being highly amusing to the sadness at the end, I can't wait to start on the next book.

Curiosity...
Would you try another book written by E. L. James or narrated by Becca Battoe?
No, I don't think I would ever read another E.L.James novel - and I would avoid Becca Battoe like the freakin plague!! She is an awful narrator!
Has Fifty Shades of Grey put you off other books in this genre?
No - I like the genre, I like reading about other peoples fantasies and getting ideas....
Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Becca Battoe?
Anyone else. Seriously. Battoe is just an awful reader. It sounded as though she had not prepared at ALL! She made what was supposed to be a sexy character (Christian Grey) sound gay! The breathy sarcastic edge on every sentence he uttered was so off putting!
If this book were a film would you go see it?
No. Well, I guess it would depend on the lead characters and whether I were drunk or not.
Any additional comments?
James is a really bad writer. I gave her the benefit of the doubt because I like the subject matter and the genre but DAMN, she is awful. If I had to hear about the "inner godess" one more time I would puke. The phrase "sphere of reference" is overused to say the least. The entire book was just so juvenile - which is odd because it is an ADULT subject matter.
She is juvenile, puerile, verbose, simple minded and plain boring. I resisted reading this book - although when I had an extra credit on Audible I thought "what the hay". What a waste of hay! There is about 2.6% of really good action/content and 97.4% bad dialogue. It's simplistic, predictable, verbose and trite. Too bad too because her subject matter could have been so much more!
I told my partner it reminds me - seriously - of "See Jane? See Dick? Run Jane Run" sort of dialogue.
ugh.

Obviously GREAT
Now i must say you cannot write a review for fifty shades unless you have read all three in the trilogy as the story just continues.
I have read all three and wow wow wow.
i cant wait for the movie the come out, i will be the first in line. I absolutly loved this.
well written, and NO its not just about PORN which some (who have not read the book) would ignorantly state.
It is so much more deeper than just the sexy parts, but the dynamic between their relationship in this well written, nail biting, gripping book.

I enjoyed these books and I do enjoy the films but the audio book to me beats them all. Its really well performed and the story and performance together suck you in for a really enjoyable experience.

Should have the tittle, Filthy Shades Of Grey!
I am no prude, but the book was a porno in audio! Such graphic detail constantly all the way through was way over the top. Makes me wonder about the author. The voice was awful and droned on and on and the ending was rubbish. Sorry have been a member for many years, and don't often comment. Don't waste a credit!!!

Reading the blurb always pays.
I struggled in every aspect of this book. I downloaded ALL of the books, having been told about the hype but did not check what it actually is. I would definitely not recommend putting this in the car, with the intention of boredom busting on a long journey. My parents faces were priceless, and the moment was unforgettable. Though finding the courage to ask if they would like to listen to music instead was difficult.

Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades
Having spent my late teens reading Harold Robins, Rupert Gilchrist, Jackie Collins, even Jilly Cooper…..This book at my age…40 something...... is, without doubt, unequivocal adolescent drivel. If, however, you’ve reach middle age without ever reading a novel, which I think a majority of this books fan base is made up from, you’ll love it....
