Publisher's Summary

One wedding, two best men, one hell of a love story!

Declan Ramsay's brother Oliver was marrying Annabelle Aiken at a fairytale castle on the banks of Loch Ness in Scotland. The bride and groom decided that Annabelle's gay younger brother would share the best man duties with Declan. Declan had never met the kid who was to be his joint best man. Sam Aiken was abroad, working as an interpreter and finishing his studies. He wouldn't meet Declan until a few days before the wedding, so the best men communicated and planned their speech by email for more than a year.

But on meeting Sam Aiken, Declan is surprised to realize the kid isn't a kid at all, but a tall, blond, and athletic young man. Declan is sure he's straight, so he's alarmed by the ferocious attraction he feels for Sam. And as the attraction is reciprocated, the events at Dunloch Castle change everything Declan has ever believed about himself.

But, is Samuel Aiken all that he appears to be?

I absolutely loved this book. And fell in love with both Sam and Declan. I have to say I hated Sam's father.

The narrator for this book wow. I absolutely loved his Scottish accent and he really brought the characters to life. I highly recommend this book to anyone that love this genre of book!

    "Not what i expected"

I was given a free copy for an honest review from the author. Declan and Sam make a great couple. Declan has always been straight until meeting with Sam who is one of the Best man in Oliver and Annabelle's wedding along side with Declan. They have become friends via email for the last 12 months but finally meet in an airport accident. From there the fun begins love blossoms but Sam is keeping a huge secret that finally gets revealed at the end of the book which I didn't see coming. Can't wait to continue on the journey. Isobel is a new author to me who I will definitely be checking out the other books she has written.
This is a new narrator to me and I loved his different inflections especially his Scottish accent. Will definitely be looking for more

"GLORIOUS M/M ROMANCE- With a twist"
What did you like most about As You Wish?

I loved this book so much. It was funny, romantic, VERY sexy, and what a great ending. Sam and Declan's romance was just so much fun.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I fell head over heels for both Sam and Declan. Just wait and listen to the kilt scene...that was just soooo hot!

What about Gary Furlong’s performance did you like?

This is the first time i've listened to Gary Furlong and it won't be the last. His voice is very listenable. He had great pacing, his range of accents were brilliant and particularly his Scots accents were perfect. He wasn't shy when narrating the erotic scenes either so i was very impressed.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, this made me laugh and cry. I stayed up into the wee small hours to finish the audiobook and went to sleep with a big smile on my face. I don't want to give much away, but the references to "The Princess Bride" movie and the way they were woven into the story was just genius.

    Any additional comments?

This was such an entertaining listen and I adore Sam and Declan. The story was beautifully written and narrated. The perfect evening's entertainment. I hope the rest of the series will be in audio soon.

    "Almost hooked"

Overall, this was a likeable story. The author did a great job at showing a connection between Sam and Declan. There were some lightly funny moments. And "Princess Bride" had a role in their connection. The sex was somewhat explicit but not gratuitous. And the story was complete but aligned for a sequel.
The bad part was that the author said one of the characters "changed sexual orientation," which shows ignorance. And their getting together was a bit too fast and easy, considering things, things I can't name without spoiling the story a bit.

    "An emotion-filled 5 stars...outstanding narration!"

I absolutely loved this story. It’s a wonderful look at one man’s journey to find what-and who-he truly wants after so many unsatisfying encounters with women, and another man’s attempt to find love and settle back into a normal life-if his controlling father will let him.

God, I adored these characters. Sam is so lovable, bubbly and bright and outgoing-though at times hiding some bit of sadness that we don’t get to find out about until the absolute end of the story. And Declan…there’s just something about a person discovering his sexuality and breaking free of expectations that endears Declan (and other characters like him) to me from the start. The two together are intensely passionate and the phrase “explosive chemistry” was probably coined with their eventual pairing in mind.

Watching as Declan explored his sexual boundaries as he learns just what he needs and wants is emotional for the reader as well as Declan himself as he experiences it. He and Sam weave such a tight bond with each other, and as a reader I was just as devastated as Declan when their time together at the castle for the wedding comes to an end…especially the way it did.

I’m really glad the way things tied up at the end, I don’t think I could have taken any other ending. I’m am totally hooked for this series and can’t wait to dive in to the next book. 5 stars for As You Wish, and I can guarantee no matter how this series progresses from here that I’ll still be re-reading this one in the future! Recommended for M/M romance fans 18+ for adult language and explicit M/M sexual content.

Narration: I am thrilled with the narration of As You Wish. Gary Furlong does an incredible job, nailing the different accents perfectly which gave the story an authentic, realistic feel as I listened. The pacing was just right, and even with the heavier accents the enunciation was spot on and easy to understand. When it came to that scene I mentioned earlier when Declan and Sam's time at the castle ends, the narration was injected with just the right amount of emotion that I might have needed a tissue... 5 stars for the narration, and I certainly hope Mr. Furlong continues to narrate the rest of the series!

    "An enjoyable and fun story"

I enjoyed reading this story and the subsequent two books last year. I was a little bemused with the direction this story went at the time, but I think knowing where the story, series, and characters were heading helped me appreciate the audiobook more. In fact, I listened and followed along with the ebook at the same time and was pleased that the story had received a subsequent edit at some point. Some of the vocabulary and other phrases had been modified, removed or improved. Not that there were many times overall, but enough to make an impression.

Sam and Declan are fun and steamy together, enjoying some light bondage once they start making out. The story is a sweet GFY, almost insta-love, but not quite because they’d already experienced a year long internet communication, so sort of knew each other. I was surprised they didn’t refer to these conversations more often. I liked Declan’s character. He’s bowled over by his attraction to Sam and the possibility of coming out as bi/GFY—he doesn’t even know himself—is all new to him and he copes with this new relationship admirably.

The route the story takes these characters was totally unexpected. Although there are a few clues along the way, the events and the revelations about Sam and his father in the last few chapters seemed rather obscure. For me, Sam’s character didn’t quite match up to his ‘career’.

I like Isobel’s writing and her engaging storytelling style. It’s easy to read and her descriptive phrases certainly paint a picture in my mind. I do have one major issue though and that’s with the frequent head-hopping that occurs because it pulls me out of the story. I had to go back and work out whose point of view the scene is being viewed from. It often occurs with Sam and Declan, but also with a few of the other characters. It's especially confusing when it happens within the same paragraph.

Gary Furlong was a new narrator for me. It often takes me a time to adjust to a new voice, but his performance was commendable. I particularly enjoyed the intimate scenes. He made a clear distinction between Sam’s posh English accent and Declan’s Scottish brogue and he portrayed the other characters well, even the various female ones.

Good storie . There is a cliffhanger so there is need to read book #2.
The narration was ok. He the narrator did a great job on each character.
But when it was the solo narration he sounded a bit stiff.
over all this was a good storie.

    "As You Wish"
What made the experience of listening to As You Wish the most enjoyable?

The combination of the story and narration. It's an entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story. The story pulled me in from the start and held my attention until the end. Even though it's a shorter book it didn't feel like it. The story flowed smoothly and the relationship between Sam and Declan didn't feel rushed.

What did you like best about this story?

Even though there is a little mystery and suspense woven into the mix it's also fun story with a couple of interesting twists. Everyone wants a Happy Ever After no matter who you are. What better place to fall in love than at a fairy-tale castle. The relationship between Declan and Sam is fun, sweet and humorous and definitely steamy at times. They also endure a little heartache and angst before they get their HEA.

First impressions are hard to get over sometimes. Even if you've "known" the person for quite some time through chats and emails. Your not really strangers, yet you are. It was fun how Declan and Sam met in person the first time.

Loved that the story doesn't end in a cliffhanger. It is left open for future books in the series but you are not left hanging where Declan and Sam are concerned. Now that the connection between Declan and Sam is established it will be interesting to see where the series goes from here. I'm looking forward to continuing with the series.

Which character – as performed by Gary Furlong – was your favorite?

All of them...Declan the most I would say. Gary furlong did a really good job with the narration. Nice voice easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Loved the slight English accent. It fit the story and characters perfectly. Really good character voices. You could always tell which character was speaking. He brought the characters, their emotions and story to life. Very enjoyable

    "Interesting story"
What made the experience of listening to As You Wish the most enjoyable?

As You Wish is an interesting tale with funny and light moments, darker, deep ones, some mystery, and lots of love intertwined in a an engaging series starter. Declan and Sam are great to read together. I loved that their relationship is built on an existing and very intimate friendship. And the circumstances in which they meet in real life were absolutely hilarious. I also liked that you could guess there was something not right with Sam, without being able to guess exactly what it was. Not sure if Sam is who I’ve pictured in that position, but the revelation wasn’t really out of place.

    Any additional comments?

I loved, listening to this story! Gary Furlong does a great job, although the styles of narration of audio books are something I need to get used to. I have not listened to too many, and I find myself expecting them to sound like bed time stories from childhood 😀 The more I listen, the more I get hooked to them though. And Declan sounded amazing!
If you want to try an audiobook, As You Wish by Isobel Starling is a great place to start.

    "Needed More"
Would you try another book from Isobel Starling and/or Gary Furlong?

I would. I think the author needs to mature some though. The narrator did a wonderful job with the story.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I didn't really like it. It felt abrupt and quickly done.

Do you think As You Wish needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes, the ending left a lot undone.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the story itself. I really felt this story had a good concept and plot but it felt so shallow. The author just didn't give us enough of the characters themselves. It left me with little connection to the characters. The ending was a bit abrupt. There are too many strands left hanging.

Even with all of that I quite enjoyed the build up in the story. I wanted more but I did love these characters together. I wanted to connected with them (even though I didn't). Now the narrator really added a level to this story. I don't know if I would have enjoyed the story so much as a written tale.

"Sweet story with a surprising twist."

Narration – I have listened to one other book narrated by Gary Furlong before, and I remember liking his voice. In this book, I was really impressed by the accents he is able to produce for the characters. Scottish and British accents are mostly present in this book, but I know he can do others as well. I would not be able to tell what country he lives in or which is his real accent because he does them so well. I will definitely be looking for more books narrated by him.

Story – When I started listening to this audiobook I thought that I was getting a cutesy romance between two men who meet at a wedding. To be fair it is partially that. Declan and Sam started a friendship through emails while helping to plan their sibling’ marriage to each other. When they meet for the very first time, they don’t know each other by looks and things kind of get off on the wrong foot. Declan’s bad day makes him less than kind to the shaggy-haired stranger. It is a lesson that you should treat people nicely because you never know if you will meet again or what the circumstances might be. Sam is easy going and doesn’t let the bad attitude get to him. The two men are as different as night and day. Declan is high strung and Sam is relaxed.

I have to say from the beginning I liked Sam better than Declan because he is just more likable. He is also smart, and adventurous. Declan does grow on me as he figures out his sexuality and learns to ease up, in the arms of Sam. Their romance is sweet as the two characters both love the movie, The Princess Bride. The title of the book hints at it, but the story is full of references to the movie as Declan and Sam talk to each other in movie quotes.I really fell in love with the two of them together. But once the wedding is over they have to go back to their old lives, and though both hope to see each other again, there is a major twist that takes the story to a whole new level. My interest was piqued. I went online after listening to immediately get the second audio, knowing I needed to see where the story will go from the end of this book. Needless to say, I definitely recommend this story, especially the audio version.

    "Enjoyed it!"

Overall, I liked the story. However, it was the narration that sold me. The narrator, Gary Furlong did a great job with the different characters, even when the MC's (Declan and Sam) were quoting scenes from the Princess Bride. I loved that! If you read the companion book, you'll find that the narration has a bit of ad libbing - this made the narration all the better as the prose wouldn't have always flowed if narrated as is.
The only thing I would say was less than satisfying was the non-character narration - it seemed a bit stilted, but you get used to it. I already purchased the second audio, so that didn't stop me :)

The story itself is engaging - it was funny to see both of MC's dislike each other at first and then quickly get together. The chemistry between the 2 men is hot, they work well together. I would recommend the book and highly recommend the audio!
