Publisher's Summary

Ayn Rand's dystopic science-fiction novella takes place at some unspecified future date. Mankind has entered another dark age as a result of what Rand saw as the weaknesses of socialistic thinking and economics. Technological advancement is now carefully planned -- when it is allowed to occur at all -- and the concept of individuality has been eliminated. As is common in her work, Rand draws a clear distinction between the "socialist/communal" values of equality and brotherhood and the "productive/capitalist" values of achievement and individuality.

    "Amazingly GOOD READ!!!!!"

Iam in 8th grade and have to do a report on "Anthem" I was a little afraid at first thinking it was to advanced, but I understood every bit of it. Life in this society is unthinkable. "I" love that Prometheus found his way.
Also the Narration was a perfect tone for me.
Again, ANTHEM IS A MUST READ FOR ALL AGES.

Where does Anthem rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very enjoyable will listen to again

    Any additional comments?

The book when written most likely sounded absurd, it is scary how we are moving twords the absurd.

"A counter extreme of its own strawman parody"

I imagine in proper times or places this book and its kind, though fundamentally not truth, may well be truly valuable, if fair truth is sometimes too weak to cure minds of existing bonds of extremism. My time and place are not such, and in context it is more than sadly ironic as I literally observe unequivocally its influence at repressing the inherently vital balanced understanding of the dualistic nature of humanity, solidifying or skewing toward its purposeful extreme of individualism.

    "Rand's classic"

The narrator was nothing special but the story was one of Rand's best in my opinion.

    "Great story, ok performance"

A great intro to Ayn Rand. I thought there wasn't enough emotion in the performance, so maybe find another reading of it.

    "Great story; lifeless reader"

While I might not be a Rand lackey, I do find enjoyment in this classic dystopian tale. It is filled with lovely language and a potent message, even if that message is beat into you repeatedly. I'm no objectivist, but I do find satisfaction in the "selfish" message.

That being said, Rand haters may find it oddly fitting that the reader here performs with as little soul as they believe is inside of the author. It was just a bit...boring and safe.

But it isn't horrible and, if you're interested in the story, you'll get used to the voice. It's worth a shot.

"I missed the point but Logan's Run is familiar"

I am glad this was a novella and I had this on 2x speed and it still felt like a chore to get through. The narration was like listening to " How to install ink into a printer For Dummies "
I had purchased Ayn Rand's other audio book before I had listened to this . So I have 32 hours of The Fountainhead to listen to , I hope it was not a mistake .
