Summary

Adrian Mole is 39 and a quarter. Due to his financial situation, he has been forced to move next door to his parents. And his numerous nightly visits to the lavatory lead him to suspect prostate trouble.

As his worries multiply, a phone call to his old flame ignites powerful memories and makes him wonder - is she the only one who can save him now?

Great of you're a Mole fan.

This is standard Mole fodder - gentle humour based around a sometimes unlikeable protagonist. Easy to listen to, great characters, good performance. I always love the way that these books are actually a social commentary wrapped up in comedy.

Highly Entertaining

Excellent narration, just how I have always imagined the diarist himself to sound like. Entertaining story too!

Well written, well read but thoroughly depressing

Adrian’s life (at this point the same age as me) seems to be one of the bleakest I have ever listened to. Finished this book thoroughly depressed and hoping my own life doesn’t take a similar turn for the worst.

awful narration.

No idea why the narrator chose to use Black Country accents for the female Mole family members who were born and bred in Norfolk (Pauline) or Leicester (Rosie and Gracie). He struggles with pacing and delivery too. Tough to listen to. Try and seek out an alternative version of The Prostrate Years

Great book

Great book.
I wish Sue Townsend didn't die 😔 😢
I love the ending of this book. It's just what needed to be!

Edit: just listened again. Best book ever.
I listen to the collection annually.
Sue Townsend must have been in stitches writing this. She truly was the best.

My favourite author.

Particularly cracked up at
Pauline Moles calling Hugo Fairfax Lycett "An inbred tw4tface, with a chin like an illegal banana" 🤣🤣🤣
She must have been crying of laughter when she wrote that

Welcome reunion with an old friend

I've grown up with Adrian Mole and have, through the years, enjoyed the wonderful books by Sue Townsend. Adrian started off life as a weedy, pompous boy, and is now nearly 40. The voice of Adrian, sympathetically narrated in this book, made me feel warmer towards him than I have in previous books. That had little to do with the prostate troubles of the title, and more to do with the growing certainty that Adrian is more sinned against than sinning, and perpetually misunderstood. This book accompanied me on several trips down the M3 and back, and the miles flew by. This is a warm, and uplifting book, despite the title and Adrian deals with his travails with courage and gusto, and always does the next right thing. Bravo, Adrian!

A funny and moving last book

Whether this book was to be Sue Townend's last Adrian Mole book I don't know, but it was a fitting way to end our journey with him through out his life. It's as hilarious as it is touching. I must admit to shedding a tear at the end. Thank you Sue for a treasured collection of Mole books - I will keep them forever.

Work of genius, pure joy

Sue Townsend simply at her best. Outstanding. So many complexities dealt with wit and understanding.
