Summary

Brent Spiner's explosive and hilarious novel is a personal look at the slightly askew relationship between a celebrity and his fans. If the Coen Brothers were to make a Star Trek movie, involving the complexity of fan obsession and sci-fi, this noir comedy might just be the one.

Set in 1991, just as Star Trek: The Next Generation has rocketed the cast to global fame, the young and impressionable actor Brent Spiner receives a mysterious package and a series of disturbing letters, that take him on a terrifying and bizarre journey that enlists Paramount Security, the LAPD, and even the FBI in putting a stop to the danger that has his life and career hanging in the balance.

Featuring a cast of characters from Patrick Stewart to Levar Burton to Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, to some completely imagined, this is the fictional autobiography that takes listeners into the life of Brent Spiner, and tells an amazing tale about the trappings of celebrity and the fear he has carried with him his entire life.

A really fun listen!

Really enjoyable listen! This is absolutely a well written piece of real person fan fiction and I enjoyed every minute!

The story got a teeny bit predictable in some tiny ways but still fun!

Loved it!

The mix of an actual autobiography with a crazy crime story is unusual and this story was a mix of very funny anecdotes with a fictitious whodunnit thrown in for good measure. Also, not only did Brent Spiner do most of the narrating, there were some great, tongue-in-cheek cameos from Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes amongst other Star Trek actors, which really livened the whole thing up. I really enjoyed this!

Who Dunnit Data?

This was fun, especially with the inclusion of many Star Trek actors, but if it wasn't by Brent Spiner I would never listened to it.
The story is ok, if slightly weird, but the performances are great.

Best Trekkie Story In Years

I came across this book purely by accident. I was looking for anything Star Trek related and came across this little gym.

I personally think that it's the best Star Trek related story since the TNG days. To have all the cast play themselves was a lovely surprise and the storyline had me gripped. I've listened to this book twice in a row now in two sittings.

Brent Spiners' excellent narration along with a 'who done it' tape storyline made for the best listen in a long time.

if you like good narration, Star Trek stories, mystery stories, excellent acting and very well done background sounds, then this is definitely the one for you.

Happy listening and live long and prosper.

Definitely a Fiction

Great to hear TNG cast. The book is good, not great. A little bit of a glorified self satire.

A curiosity for Trek (and Coen brothers!) fans

This strange and brief experiment in fiction can't escape the fact that the Brent Spiner autobiography it teases would have been the better read. That said, the TNG cameos are a blast and I enjoyed the pseudo noir elements. And of course, Spiner is a great narrator. A choice read for sure.
