One secret. Multiple casualties.
Everything Melody Callahan has ever been told about her past is a lie. Her father lied. Her husband lied. But like all secrets...they come out. Not only is her mother, Aviela, alive, but she won't stop until she tears down everything Liam and Melody have spent the past year building.
With new targets on their backs and the media focused on their family as the presidential election approaches, Liam and Melody must fight on two battlefronts. Melody is torn between being in love with Liam and wanting to kill him for lying to her. Being in love and showing love are two different things in her world. Liam wants to do anything to protect his family, even if that means hurting the people he loves.
Family is everything...but what happens when they're out for your blood? Everything they have been through is nothing compared to what is coming....

Only one audiobook is available in this series. I've read book one and I'm so pleased that I downloaded this because the performances are superb and have added a new dimension to my enjoyment. I can't wait to start reading the final instalment. Don't bother with this if you hate profanity and violence.
“You love me, you hate me, make up your damn mind, wife. I’m getting whiplash.”
There was action aplenty, heat in abundance, thrills, spills, chills, suspense, mayhem, destruction, betrayal, lust, love, violence, high energy, excitement, passion, humour and emotion.
My heart and stomach was left hanging and I can't wait for the final instalment.
Great second book, if not even better than the first.
"Not as good as the first, unfortunately."
yes, I will probably continue the series.
The ending was ok, but a little confusing. With all the lead up I thought it would be a little more insightful.
I just didn't like that they changed the narration from the first book. I got used to the first narrator, who was fantastic, and all of the characters were original sounding and believable. In this book, it was hard to tell the voices apart, and it sounded like a person doing impressions, not like separate voices.
More suspense. For some reason the flow of this book was just not as good as the first one.
Bring the original narrator back and WHERE ARE THE LAST TWO BOOKS?
"Best Mafia Book Ever-J.J. McAvoy Rocks!!!"
I love Mafia books and this book did not disappoint! The story is very fast paced, exciting, thrilling, suspense, some humor (due to my warped sense of humor). No waste of time on inner turmoil and filler....Not In This Book.
In Chicago...there is an arranged marriage of the Melody Giovanni of the Italian mafia family and Liam Callahan of the Irish mafia family. The marriage is an effort to become the strongest crime family not only in the U.S., but Italy and Ireland. They fight with the Russian Mafia as well as smaller Irish and Italian mafia cells over control of territory and power.
Liam and Melody will physically fight (including Melody shooting Liam) then they have hot hot sex, this was humorous to me. Melody is pregnant for the second time, she was stabbed in the stomach in the first book and lost the baby. There is also turmoil, defiance, and betrayal within the Callahan mafia/crime family. We find out in this book who the moles and betrayers are and what they are up to. Listen to find out the yummy details.
There is violence...killing, torture then killing, like cutting of fingers, nail guns to the head, dismemberment, etc....but it is Mafia.
I couldn't stop listening and am now waiting for the 3rd book American Savages, it's available but not on Audible. When I found Ruthless People the first book, this book The Untouchables was also available so now I have to try and find other books to keep me occupied until American Savages arrives. There is also a novella: Declan + Coraline.
J. J. McAvoy is a new author for me and what a way to win me over! Jeff Hayes also gave an outstanding performance especially his Irish accent and in this book there was what I call true style conversation between male and female....I loved it.
This is a series I will listen to over and over so YES it is well worth the credit or $.
"awesome!!!! just awesome!!!!"
this book has it all. thriller, love story with steamy sex and murder all in a well written story. the narrator is the best I've ever heard. his impersonations were brilliant. over all the best read in a long while. can't wait for more in this series.
"Love, Hate, Anger, Sex, Violence, Mystery!"
Narration - Jeff Hays - Kick Ass!
Seriously! I've never heard a man do such convincing females before in my life. This is a very dramatic presentation, not just someone narrating a story. The characters are filled with emotion, passion, lust, anger, you name it, it's there.
Really great job!
The story? This is interesting...
I haven't read book one yet.
I received this audiobook free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review but then noticed it was book 2 in the series. I went looking for the audio version of book 1, but it hasn't been produced yet. This one was up next, so I decided to dive in anyway, and it was ok. I know I don't know the entire back story, but I still didn't feel totally lost. It didn't take long to figure out Mel and Liam and to fall in love with both of them.
SO! This is a mafia story. There is some crazy violence here, the kind you would expect from mafia types. The fun/crazy part is that Melody is a bit of a crazy psycho. She's one bad ass chick and I loved her. The relationship between her and Liam is down right crazy, but they are in love (even though it grates on Mel to admit it) With all the violence, swearing and shooting going on between the two of them, they are still in love and their banter is actually pretty funny. I especially enjoyed the development of their relationship through this story. How they grew closer and more in love and we got to see the softer more loving side of each of them.
The book is told from multiple POV's primarily with Liam and Melody, but there are a number of interesting secondary characters that also share their POV, but it's easy to follow because each chapter is headed with the character that we'll be hearing from.
Neil (Liam's brother) and his wife Olivia and Liam's cousin Declan and wife Coraline take their turn filling us in on what's going on with their branch of the family along with some others to give us the full picture of this family's reach.
It's full of action, love, hate, corruption, loyalty, betrayal, some mystery, some great sex, a lot of snark and really great characters.
Loved it! Can't wait for the rest of the series to be produced! (hopefully with the same narrator)
"Kill or be Killed..."
The Untouchables is Book 2 in the Ruthless people serious. With that being said, if you haven't read book 1 then there may be some unintentional spoilers for you.
Liam and Melody are rich, powerful, and ruthless. In book one they ran over every person they believed to be in their way with no regard. It actually annoyed me how they seemed to have no bounds nor showed proper respect to anyone So in Book 2 they are faced with a foe that inspires fear in them. My favorite thing about this book is that Liam and Melody finally get some of the karma they deserve. I know it's bad to dislike the main characters, but I just want them not to be such duoches when it isn't necessary.
This new foe actually brings some suspense when she starts killing off some of the characters. The characters are developing more in book 2 as the brothers and their wives began to adjust to the new ly weds. I am glad to see that all the wives do not Bo down easily. We start to seem some fight in them all. The book ends with a good cliff hanger. I'm hoping that yhe author doesn't magically make everything go their way in the next book. This is the mafia. Not everyone in the family should make it.
The narrator for Book 1, Joel Froomkin, was much better suited for the irish/accent changes. So I was not happy to see that book 2 had a new narrator. Not that the guy was bad. Jeff Hays did quite well especially handling the female voices. I just think authors should only change narrators if they suck.
"Ruthless they are"
I can not get enough of J.J. McAvoy's writing. I absolutely love everything I've read by her.
The Untouchables is book 2 in the Ruthless people series. This book had me hooked for the opening scene till the very end when I didn't want it to end just yet.
This book is filled with suspense, action, love and it's fast paced. So many questions have been answered, I had a few OMG moments I can't be believe that.
Melody and Liam have grown closer even though they still get surprised learning things from each others past or something new about each other.
The family are they really a loyal as they are expected to be?
"Here I was, standing in a room full of killers and I was one of them. I was a Callahan. God help whoever stood in the family's way."
"His eyes narrowed in on Declan, but he didn't stop thrusting into the girl's mouth...poorgirl. How he could find his penis with all that fat rolling off him, was beyond me. And when he came, he looked like a dying boar."
Melody I love the voice for her... I could totally get a feel for her.
Yes it was hard to stop listening to
"BEST SERIES OF BOOKS I'VE READ!"
Nail biting good!
A good book is an escape for me and these books are the best escape I've found in a long time. This book and the first book as well takes the reader through many emotions. There is lust, greed, hatred, revenge and a love that grows not only with the characters in the books but also within the reader... or so that's how it was for me. I was a Mel fan in the beginning but didn't take long for Liam to win me over. This series of books are the first I've read of JJ McAvoys and I was impressed at how the story flowed. Add to this the narration of Jeff Hays and I was there in my mind every step or word of the book!
When Mel grabs Olivia by the hair of her head and dunks her head in the dirty dishwater!! Never so glad to see someone get whats coming to them!
Rule # 1
Other than the classics, there are not many books that I think are good enough to be reread but these books will remain in my library and I'm certain to read (or listen to) them over and over.
Yes but i would warn them that is not your average romance book. Audible has book in romance/erotica but I would never say this book is either of those two things.
When Mother and daughter meet. I don't want to give to much away so I will leave it at that.
I very much enjoyed Jeff's performance. This book can get a little confusing with all the difference couples, but Jeff did an outstanding job keeping all the voices the same for that person so I knew who was speaking.
The cancer diagnosis, it was just heart wrenching.
This book to me should be listed as a thriller or something along that line, so if you looking for love story this is not the book for you. BUT this is an Outstanding book, it is about a mob family Grandfather, Father and Three sons. Liam and Mel are the main characters they have a love/hate relationship with each other that borders on crazy but it's so convincing and entertaining I can't get enough.
The only issue I have with this book is it is book 2 and Audible does not have book 1 so it took sometime for me to get into the book, but when I did I was hooked until the major cliffhanger and you guessed it Audible does not have book 3.
This audiobook was provided by the author/narrator/publisher free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review.
"So Confusing.... Credit in Exchange For Review"
Starting with MY issues with the book get them out-of-the-way.
The very first and most important is that this is his book number two in the series. I felt like I was dropped right into the middle of a miniseries. I had a really had a hard time sorting out who was who & and what the heck was going on.
Its my preference to begin a series from book one and on, in order. However this was a gift to me in exchange for my opinion & review. Audible does not have book number one available at this time. For me this was a constant game of catch-up and I do not feel that I ever made it. The end had tons of loose ends that were not tied up.
I have a rule that I don't buy a book in a series until all have been released. This is exactly why.
My second, less minor issue is that Audible has this classified as Romance > Erotica. There IS a bit of romance, however at just under 12 hours long it was minimal. This would have been better classified as a thriller or mystery with a disclaimer of mature themes.
On to the good… JJ McAvoy has some well-developed and multi dimensional characters, perhaps if Audible ever gets the rest of the series I will give it a try.
As for narration, Jeff Hayes does an almost impeccable job describing male and female characters alike – I am a bit perplexed though, as it sounds like Jeff Hayes is a woman. I listen to some other samples by Jeff Hayes and they were about one half female sounding & one half male sounding so I'm not sure if this is mislabeled, there are two Jeff Hayes or what is going on. I'm confused, but this Jeff Hayes did an excellent job.
Thank you for reading my review. Please select yes if you found it helpful. The option is directly below this text, thanks.
"Are there words..."
I don't know that there any words that would do this book justice. WOW WOW
