Ford Aston is not too picky about what he wants out of Christmas. He's not into this holiday - like at all. He doesn't do presents or family dinners or parties or church.
He does pets. And he's got one lined up for Christmas Eve. In fact it's the highlight of his day. And if he can get through drop-in visits, nosy 12-year-olds, an inappropriate conversation with his best friend's girlfriend, dinner with a family that's not his, and a party at his mother's house - well, he might just get home in time to enjoy himself with a stranger and make it all okay.
Ford Aston is known for many things. Being an emotionless, messed up bastard, a freakishly smart social outcast, and a cold, domineering master who keeps "pets" instead of girlfriends.
And after Rook broke his heart, he plans to keep it that way.
Ashleigh is known for nothing, and that's exactly what she's got going for her. She's broke and stranded in the mountains with a three-month-old baby, and Ford Aston is screwing with her head.
And she plans to mess with his right back.
It's a coy game at first, filled with flirting and innuendo - but Ford soon realizes something is not quite right with Ashleigh. In fact something is seriously, seriously wrong, and the closer they get to their final destination, the closer Ford gets to the truth.
One night of devastation, self-loathing, and emptiness turns into the best thing that ever happened to Ford Aston. But one day of in-your-face reality threatens Ashleigh's whole existence.

I've read the books, and loved them, I didn't think I could love them anymore, that was until I listen to this.
Wether you have read the book or not, or if this is your first audiobook, you will not be disappointed
All I'll say is, OMG his voice.............
Recommend for everyone, simple
"Troy Duran is Outstanding!"
Ford is simply the most intriguing and complex character I have read. to have this book on audio only enhanced the intrigue. perfect inflection on the narration to show the change in mood/emotion of the scene and characters. Troy Duran also did a great job of narrating for the female character. loved this audiobook!
"Everyone hates Ford at first, but just get to know him..."
I Loved this book, but I love Ford more. You will too as you try to get to know him. He is sexy, sensitive, and falls in love surprising himself and those around him. His relationship with Kate and her infant daughter is one to be treasured by all who encounter.
Buy it, read it and listen to him...you will soon see what he is all about.
What a story! An unforgettable man for sure.
So worth every penny! Honest!
"Hot Hot Hot"
The narrator has the perfect voice for Ford! This story is even better on audio!
It's a great follow up to the Rook and Ronin series.
"I Love, Love, Love FORD"
I recommend Ford to everyone who listens to Audio books.
I loved the book when I purchased it in print and love it even more after listening to it on tape. Ford is such an unusual character. He has a personality that can rub people the wrong way in the beginning but a few pages in you see that he is so much more than he wants people to know.
I love the way he opens up when it is least expected. We know he has a heart after seeing him with Rook. Sasha pulls out a little more of his kinder, gentler side.
Then Ashleigh comes along. Ford embraces her and Kate with so much kindness. It is impossible not to fall in love with his character--even when he acts like a jerk sometimes.
Troy Duran makes Ford come to life. His voice is very smooth and sexy as I imagine Ford's.
There are times when I could feel Ford's pain and both cemetery scenes broke my heart. They are beautifully written and brilliantly performed. Since the story is told from Ford's point of view, the narrator makes the story real. Sometimes it feels like Ford is sitting in the living room recapping the events after he left Rook.
I can't imagine anyone not reading the entire Rook and Ronin series but Ford honestly stands on its own. There are some people mentioned that a new listener wouldn't know but it in no way spoils the story of Ford--one of my all time favorite fictional characters.
The first JA Huss novel I ever read/listened to was 3 2 1, so this novel was a total surprise. 3 2 1 definitely had interesting characters and some deep messages but it was surrounded by erotica, this novel is not. It has a very few nonconventual sex scenes but, they are surrounded by extreme character growth and an unconventional love story. Is it very realistic? No, not really, most people don't achieve emotional intelligence and fall in love in a weeks time but, in our romantic fantasies, anything can happen. The way that the story is told, it seems like much more than a week. The Hero and the Heroine have both suffered tragic emotional blows and this week long trip to happiness and healing couldn't have been more deserved by another couple. I shed many tears of grief and happiness, during this story, and was left with the feeling of contentment that only a HEA gave give. Even the narration was perfect. This novel would have been worth two credits.

I abso-freaking-lutely love Ford Aston. This was my second time reading Slack/Taut and I loved it more than the first. And reading with Audible made for a funnier experience. The reader is the best. Serious, lighthearted, snappy, moody, sexy. Great job! Ford's story and his journey to understanding and accepting himself is great. My heart broke over his decision to cut himself off from Rook, and his complete lack of self-acceptance, or perhaps misunderstanding of himself is his biggest insecurity. Ashlee understood him, liked him but not his a$$holeish tendencies. Perfect for each other.
His big moment was perfect. I'm in love with be with Ford Aston.
"Liked but a little slow at first and has BDSM!"
I really liked it for the most part but beware it is several chapters in before the H and h even meet so the first several chapters were a little slow for me - just Ford running all around town oddly which was boring to me. Therefore, for me, it didn't draw me in right away. And I will say I am not at all interested in BDSM and this has it. I hated the whole "pets" thing - and no we are not talking about four legged pets. That part was very degrading to women in general. With all that, I am surprised I gave the story four stars but it is because I liked the book after the H and h met - up until then, not so much. I downgraded it to four for the first part of the book. I considered giving it three just due to the BDSM and the pets thing but the rest kind of made up some for that.
The performance was fine so no problem there.
"I'm blown away!"
I'm reading the books in order after reading my first JA Huss book 3,2 1. I had to find more by her after that one. Ronin was my favorite until I listened to this one and now I'm totally in love with Ford!
This book has it all.
"I LOVE FORD!!"
Wow!! I loved this book! This is my 4th JA Huss audiobook and definitely my favorite! Such a well written story and Troy Duran was the PERFECT narrator for him...he made the character fully come to life. Great characters, great story, great twists and turns...really loved this book.
Loved this book! Had me listening beginning to end!
Just when you think the story's over it has an unexpected twist. Great story, good ending , didn't want time to end.
