    "The Best of the Best"

My favourite audio book by one of my favourite author's. For some reason I find this story addictive and return to read it time and again. Great narative by the incomprable Tony Britton who copes with the wide variety of accents needed for such a diverse set of characters. Thrilled to have it on audio book so that I can play it whenever I feel like in the car, rather like a large plate of shepherd's pie it has become comfort food to gladden my heart on a bad day. If you have not yet made the aquaintance of Alexander Kinloch then I would urge you to give it a whirl.

"Thanks, an excellent book, a good listen."
Would you listen to To the Hilt again? Why?

I would listen again, the storyline was good, I listened over a long weekend, sandwiched between DIY and Gardening, Gave up TV and enjoyed the experience. Wanted to hustle it along occasionally, but that is part of the enjoyment, you felt you were there.

    "Great story"
    Any additional comments?

Another great story from Dick Francis. This book is full of action and intrigue, family rifts and greed... This book personally kept me up all night and earned me an audible badge for all night listening! This story takes place between The Scottish Highlands and London. Our hero, The black sheep of the family, is a successful artist living in a remote hut in Scotland. His uncle, Lord Kinloch, loans him the hut in return of a painting once a year, usually of one of his gun-dogs. The Kinloch Castle has been handed over to the nation, however the Lord insists he owns some of the items that were personally given to the Kinlochs including the hilt of a ceremonial sword given to his ancestor by Prince Charles. When our hero is beaten up at his hut he is uncertain as to the reason; however he finds out that his stepfather is in debt and his Brewery is under threat of insolvency. A race horse and Gold Cup are being sought to pay off the debt. Can our hero save the day?

I don't think you can go wrong with a Dick Francis novel and this story does not disappoint. Francis's stories are always very comforting to listen to and a great favorite that can be re listened to again and again.

    "One of Francis' Best!"
Where does To the Hilt rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a favorite Dick Francis book. Racing is very peripheral, and I really liked Alexander Kinloch. This is the 2nd Dick Francis book with an artist as the main character. At times I wanted to just smack his step-sister, Pamela, but overall, loved how the story unfolded and enjoyed the unorthodox detective Alexander hired to help him figure out what was going on. This is a book I read or listen to once or twice a year.

What does Tony Britton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoy his use of different accents and just overall, find his voice a great one to listen to!
