Summary
Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family.
He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from 40 years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history.
But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.
Critic reviews
"I doubt you will read a better book this year." (Val McDermid)
"Intelligent, complex, with a gripping plot and deeply intriguing characters. The author's early death is a great loss." (Philip Pullman)
"What a cracking novel! I haven't read such a stunning thriller debut for years. Brilliantly written and totally gripping." (Minette Walters)

A brilliant listen from start to finish!
I purchased this on a whim after hearing about it shortly after the books were published. It's a brilliant book, modern, diverse, well written and brilliantly narrated. Excellent! I would only ward off those that have weak stomachs as some parts are quite graphic!

Great trilogy, addictive read
The millennium trilogy is just fantastic. I've not read anything like it before or since. I was gripped the whole way through and felt Id really got to know the characters and missed them when it was finished. Great story, great performance and great development.

My favourite book!
Still my favourite book, an incite into the Scandinavian culture, an uncensored cold case, and a closed room who done it (island style).

Superb thriller
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would 100% recommend this audiobook to anyone, fantastic plot, (even if it's not one of your typical break neck speed paced thrillers) excellent little side plots, complex storyline that keeps the listener hooked & very well narrated.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?
Too many to mention although the point where Mikael Blomkvist meets Harriet Vanger is brilliantly portrayed.
What about Saul Reichlin’s performance did you like?
Saul Reichlin reads this book really well (and I was delighted to see he has narrated books 2 & 3 as well), his accents & pronunciation is spot on.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
A couple of points I laughed, mainly when Lisbeth fired off an expletive at an unexpected moment or when she told Blomkvist she really like having sex with him.
Any additional comments?
Complex tale, gripping, believable & above all an amazing story!!

Enjoyable
The narrator was very good at conveying the drama of the at times complicated plot.
