Summary

Salander is plotting her revenge - against the man who tried to kill her, and against the government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life. But it is not going to be a straightforward campaign. After taking a bullet to the head, Salander is under close supervision in Intensive Care, and is set to face trial for three murders and one attempted murder on her eventual release.

With the help of journalist Mikael Blomkvist and his researchers at Millennium magazine, Salander must not only prove her innocence, but identify and denounce the corrupt politicians that have allowed the vulnerable to become victims of abuse and violence. Once a victim herself, Salander is now ready to fight back.

Critic reviews

"With the spiky and sassy Lisbeth Salander - punkish wild child, traumatised survivor of the 'care' system, sexual adventurer and computer hacker of genius - Larsson created the most original heroine to emerge in crime fiction for many years." (The Independent)

"Complex, satisfying, clever, moral...a grown-up novel for grown-up readers...this is why the Millennium Trilogy is rightly a publishing phenomenon all over the world." (Kate Mosse)

Loved this book

Have listened to all 3 books in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. They are fast paced, thrilling and exciting. They rank as amongst my most top rated audio books. The narrator was simply wonderful and I couldn’t get on with anything else while listening (much like not being able to put a physical book down). This one - Hornets Nest was probably my favourite of the three. Highly recommended but you must read the other two first!!!

Superb

Would you listen to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest again? Why?

Definitely. The writing is nothing short of brilliant, as is the narration. The entire trilogy is spectacular. Dark, thrilling and gripping - such a joy to listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It has to be Lisbeth. She is a wonderful creation. Utterly unique, she is vulnerable and strong at the same time.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Not a particular scene, but a group of scenes which shed light on how Lisbeth has spent her time away from Sweden is very illuminating. She is one of the most intelligent characters I have ever found in any genre, which makes her fascinating.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really a specific moment, but the gradual growth and development of Lisbeth as a person is brilliantly written.

Any additional comments?

A special mention must go to Saul Reichlin for the tremendous narration which is superb across all three books. He has to wrestle with such a variety of characters, ages, voices and accents, as well as the place names. There is not a single false note throughout.

A good conclusion to a great series

I've fully enjoyed this whole series. The three books are quite different in tone and pace. This was for me the second best book. Others have said they don't like the courtroom drama thing; I loved it.See? We are all different!

Great ending to a superb trilogy

Would you consider the audio edition of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest to be better than the print version?

This is one of the few audiobooks that I have prefered to the print version and the reason for it is the way Saul Reichlin brings the characters to life.

What other book might you compare The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest to, and why?

Very much comparable to the previous two books in the trilogy, these books may not be the fastest paced works ever written but they are amongst the most engrossing.

What does Saul Reichlin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Saul Reichlin is amongst the finest narrators of audiobooks I have ever heard, he doesn't just narrate the story he actually defines the characters brilliantly (especially Doctor Zalachenko) and you can hear that he enjoys the story as much as reads it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have liked to listen to it in one sitting but at over 25 hours it just wasn't possible.

Any additional comments?

Brilliant story that rounds off the trilogy nicely, the sad thing is following Stieg Larsson's untimely death there will be no more stories of his which is a real shame as I would certainly have bought them based on Millenium.

A good story but far too long

Does the reader need an itemised list of furniture bought by the main charachter from IKEA, including the prices and names of each and every bookcase table and chair? Despite the unnecessary clutter surrounding it the actual story is very entertaining and well worth the trouble.

Consider the abridged versions though.
