Summary

Salander is plotting her revenge - against the man who tried to kill her, and against the government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life. But it is not going to be a straightforward campaign. After taking a bullet to the head, Salander is under close supervision in Intensive Care, and is set to face trial for three murders and one attempted murder on her eventual release.

With the help of journalist Mikael Blomkvist and his researchers at Millennium magazine, Salander must not only prove her innocence, but identify and denounce the corrupt politicians that have allowed the vulnerable to become victims of abuse and violence. Once a victim herself, Salander is now ready to fight back.

Critic reviews

"With the spiky and sassy Lisbeth Salander - punkish wild child, traumatised survivor of the 'care' system, sexual adventurer and computer hacker of genius - Larsson created the most original heroine to emerge in crime fiction for many years." (The Independent)

"Complex, satisfying, clever, moral...a grown-up novel for grown-up readers...this is why the Millennium Trilogy is rightly a publishing phenomenon all over the world." (Kate Mosse)

Wanting More

It is probably always the sign of a good book to want more of the same. I found myself wanting to listen to more of this trilogy and - as that is not possible - more of the same kind of book. I also found myself at times thinking about the character of Lisbet Salander, as if she were a real person, so the author definitely succeeded in making this unusual character come alive for me. The Millennium Trilogy also aroused in me an interest in Stockholm. I found myself looking up the city on Street View and thinking it was a place I would like to go to. Larsson makes Stockholm real by referring to the streets where the characters in the story live or work or take a short-cut through. Although there is something a little bit 'deus ex machina' about Lisbet's abilities, that does not detract from the grip of the story. Also, Saul Reichlin is an extremely good narrator. He does an excellent job at bringing all of the individual characters to life (without getting himself in the way). All in all, I found all of the books in the Millennium Trilogy a great listen.

Amazing, please read all three

I absolutely loved all these books from the start of the trilogy to the end. I find all the characters fascinating especially Salander. I did find it difficult to follow at times due to a lot of characters with Swedish names, but didn’t mind winding it back for bits I needed to hear again. I am literally so sad I’ve listened to them all and worried I’ll never listen to anything as good ever again! The narrator makes it too, excellent voice and ability to mimic lots of different voices both male and female. Fantastic books.

Amazing book - couldn't put it down

I really enjoyed this book (and the original Millennium Series) from start to finish.

Saul's narration was exceptional and often found myself talking out loud to the audio.

Highly recommended

Narrator weak

The narrator occasionally sounds as though he is reading to small children. I’d love to hear these books read by Sean Barrett

Very good story

Nice story flows well. Very hard to put down. The problem is how long it is

Great story, brilliantly narrated

Have listened to all three of the books in this trilogy, all very well narrated. I find that listening at x1.25 speed is more satisfying as the text is rather laboured at x1 speed. I don't know why Audible slow down the original narration as x1.25 sounds more natural.
