Publisher's Summary

After three years deep under cover, US agent Harry Latham has penetrated the fortress-like mountain hideaway of the Brotherhood of the Watch, a neo-Nazi organisation born after the fall of the Third Reich. Then, on the eve of his most spectacular success, Harry disappears.

Drew Latham is frantic to discover his older brother's fate. But when he receives word that Harry has surfaced, serious doubts arise. Has Harry's cover been blown? And if so, why has the Brotherhood of the Watch let him live? The search for the truth about Harry plunges Drew into a labyrinth of deceit and death...

Read by Michael Prichard. Michael Prichard has played several thousand characters during his career. While he has been seen performing over a hundred of them in theatre and film, SmartMoney Magazine named him one of the Top Ten Golden Voices.

"Oh Dear, this has not aged well!"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The narrator really should have been coached in to moderating his tone and use of language, for me the story seemed to be delivered in a complete monotone.

What could Robert Ludlum have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I remember reading Ludnum at school, remember The Bourne Identity? A brilliant story, turned into a great movie with a good follow-up but this? Yet another "Secret Nazi organisation tries to take over the world" tale. The language is so, so dated and the plot lines are predictable, telegraphed and totally sterotypical of a very old spy-novel writer.

How could the performance have been better?

Rewrite the book using modern language and pump 40,000 volts through the narrator!

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It's one redeeming quality was that it got so bad that I never actually got to the end, I think I had about 11 hours left to suffer!

    "Story had not aged well"

I gave up on this, the story has not aged well. Far too long so it really drags.

"Not the easiest book to follow"
What did you like best about The Apocalypse Watch? What did you like least?

Not sure why it was over 26 hours, was sometimes hard to follow and some of the characters seemed insignificant. Not happy with ending

What could Robert Ludlum have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

too much build up and the big climax seemed wasted

What aspect of Michael Prichard’s performance might you have changed?

    wasn't keen on his narration

Was The Apocalypse Watch worth the listening time?

    not really

I love the entertainment and thrill of a great book which when mixed with passionate narration results in an experience like a 3-d fun fair

    "Ludlum through and through"

As always, I'm never disappointed with a Ludlum story even though he sometimes lets a bit of fact get away from him. My only issue with this particular reading is the flat delivery with a lack of passion which results in a robotic style. Get past this though and you have a cracking yarn that will keep you on your toes.
