Publisher's Summary

In the last lazy days of summer, the merciless two-week heat wave is the biggest story in Washington, D.C. But the weather is finally knocked off the front pages when a young woman is found strangled to death - a priest's white silk amice pulled taut around her throat. Pinned near the scarf is a note that simply reads, "Her sins are forgiven her." It is a chilling crime, made even more terrifying when it is followed by a second murder...and then a third. Suddenly every headline is devoted to the killer the press has dubbed "the Priest."

The slayings have piqued the interest of Dr. Tess Court, a top-notch psychiatrist dedicated to treating the problems of the human mind. Called in to create a detailed psychological profile of the murderer, she comes up with a disturbing and frightening portrait of a twisted soul who believes he is not murdering - but ministering. Detective Ben Paris doesn't give a damn about the killer's soul or his psyche, and he makes it clear that he thinks calling in a psychiatrist is on a par with ringing up a psychic hot line. What he can't dismiss is his immediate and irresistible attraction to Tess. Tall, dark, and good-looking, Ben has a reputation with women that is legendary. But the coolly elegant Tess doesn't react to Ben like other women - and he finds the challenge enticing. Now, as the two are thrown together in a perilous quest to stop a serial killer, the flame of white-hot passion flares.

"Well I didn't guess who the baddie was!"

I listen to audio books at the gym, and this did the job of making the 20 minutes on the bike go by easily. A shame it isn't available unabridged - sometimes you can spot the cuts. The sound quality varied quite a lot - I download at 4, so it should be good, but it was a tad fuzzy at times. Well read, held the interest - a good way to occupy the mind for a few hours.

    "Great book"

I had to stay in my car at lunch to finish this one! It is very fast pace and you can't guess the ending. I have read some other Nora Roberts book and enjoyed them, but this one was a great listen.

    "It's Great!"

If you've never read Nora Roberts, you are in for a great treat! Her stories are exciting romantic suspense. This one is a great mystery. There is serial killed in the DC area and he is targetting young, blonde women. Dr. Tess Court is volunteered to the police by her grandfather, the Senator, to profile the killer. The thing is, Tess fits the victum profile very well. It's a great story with a love story as well. The recording is very good. The abridgement was done right with nothing important missing from the story.

    "Nora can do better"

This was "okay." I love Nora Roberts so I enjoyed listening but you can tell this is some of her earily work. Characters not as well developed and some parts so unrealistic it made you want to fast forward. But overall I can't say it was bad. The reader has a great voice and does a good job with what she had.

"What's with the loud music at the end?"

Good story...but why finish the story with loud music over the last few paragraphs. Takes focus off the story ending. Very annoying.
