Summary

Detective Superintendent Roy Grace thinks he's found a serial killer, but not everything is as it seems in Not Dead Enough, by award winning crime author Peter James.

A beautiful socialite is dead. Roy Grace’s leading suspect, her husband, was sixty miles away when she died, but all other evidence points to him. Has someone stolen his identity or is he simply a very clever liar?

Grace’s investigation and his budding new relationship are derailed after a reported sighting of his wife, Sandy, who has been missing for nine years. Grace desperately tries to cast light on the truth in both cases as his emotional turmoil – and the body count – grows...

Although the Roy Grace novels can be listened to in any order, Not Dead Enough is the third thrilling title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Dead Man's Footsteps and Dead Tomorrow.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

This was a really gripping story .

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It had the trill element about it and I really felt for the victim as I do not like to be in too small a place. It was shocking too but the human nature element of the book was also so vivid and true to kind.

What other book might you compare Not Dead Enough to, and why?

No mans nightingale by Ruth Rendell was similar , a person buried but with this the person was dead and had bee buried for a long time.

What about David Bauckham’s performance did you like?

He speaks like an ordinary person. and his voices were believable. I really enjoyed his reading

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did want too but in fact due to time constraints I listened to it is 4 or 5 sittings. I was eager to return to it.

Any additional comments?

I am about to download another book by Peter James on to my Kindle which I tend to read in bed. I look forward to his next story

This is the third Roy Grace book Iha e listened to and the third narrator I have had to listen to....a little consistency please!!
Having said that, another enjoyable book from Mr James that is highly recommended.
Right, I'm off to purchase book 4 in the series!!

Rather dated

The story was entertaining enough, and the narrative had the requisite moments of suspense, the (not entirely surprising) twist at the end etc. However, for a contemporary listener, the text feels vaguely racist and sexist.

Excellent

Read this when it was first published and now re-visiting the series on Audible. Just as good as I remembered from the first time. I love the way Roy Grace's back story is developing.

Brilliant Story, but Chapter Divide Wrong by Audib

I really enjoyed this book, but was trying to read it digitally and also follow at other times when convenient from the audible edition. In most instances previously this has worked seamlessly ~ but in this case, it did not. Chapter divisions have been reset to cover usually 3 to 5 of the original chapters, so very awkward to orient swiftly.
The plot of this Roy Grace novel, No.3., has so many twists & turns with overall a fast pace. I found it difficult to put down. But for the changed chapters in this edition I would give it 5-stars across the board.

fantastic story as ever, it's a rollercoaster ride

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Great story again from Peter James, Roy Grace has his work cut out on this mind bending mystery, would recommend to anyone interested in a good thriller!!

What other book might you compare Not Dead Enough to, and why?

The storys of Roy Graces exploits always grip my attention throughout the whole book as did dead simple, his first brilliant case, which left me panting for more......

Which character – as performed by David Bauckham – was your favourite?

I enjoyed the character Skunk, reminded me of someone i knew years ago, and i felt David Bauckham portrayed him very well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would not have been able to listen to the whole book in one sitting as it's too long and i always enjoy chewing the story and plot over for several days to pre guess who dunnit, though I'm always surprised how easy he switches the plot around just as i think i know!!

Any additional comments?

As i said, a fantastic book with plenty to keep the listener guessing, bravo and long may he continue entertaining me as i lay in the bath, my favourite place for listening to audiobooks.!

decent story - but twists were visible very early

What made the experience of listening to Not Dead Enough the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed this story, as I have previous Roy Grace Mysteries. This one had a number of twists that were spotted well in advance of the 'reveal' - maybe obvious, maybe too many mystery stories consumed by me! Overall, still worth the time to listen

Minor Critique

Great book and performance. The only criticism I could offer is that at times the cutting between chapters is a bit too sharp. otherwise thoroughly enjoying!
