Summary

Malcolm Pembroke never expected to make a million pounds without making enemies. Nor did he expect his latest wife to be brutally murdered. All the clues suggest the killer comes from close to home, but after five marriages and nine children, that still leaves the field wide open.

When he find his own life in danger, Pembroke entrusts his safety to his estranged son, Ian, an amateur jockey; and through him discovers a compulsive new outlet for his financial expertise. Soon he's playing the international blood stock market for incredible stakes. Not the safest bet for a man on the run from avaricious relatives. Particularly when one of them's got a bomb.

Love Dick Francis

Another great book by Dick Francis. The story gallops along (excuse the pun).Of course it is of the time it was written both in attitudes and the lack of technology .Although one character has a computer and another has a phone in his car ! There was an odd dripping noise on the recording like water dripping in a cave or someone using an old fashioned type writer but it did not spoil my enjoyment .

Unusual characters

Continual action. Engaging. Unexpected story line though far fetched. Bit dated but enjoyable. Well narrated.

Happy Families

Where does Hot Money rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of my favourite books! I first read it a number of years ago, and have just rediscovered it on Audible. I have always found Dick Francis to be a wonderful storyteller, and Tony Britten really brings the characters to life!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hot Money?

There were many high points, but discovering who the killer was had to have been the best.

What about Tony Britton’s performance did you like?

I could almost believe that the Dick Francis books were written just to be narrated by Tony Britten!! He seems to be the only person who could bring the characters to life

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I hated having to put it down and stayed awake half the night to finish it.

Any additional comments?

I found (as with all Mr Francis's works) that the characters were well-rounded and believable, the storytelling excellent & left you wanting more.

superb all round

one of dick francis' best ever novels I've read it two or three times already but this was the first time as an audiobook. Martin Britten as usual, is a superb narrator. got through this novel in record time and didn't want it to end. can't wait to listen to another

Production Issues

Really good story. Great performance. Be aware that the digital version was clearly created from aging masters because, at times, it is like listening to a poor cassette tape copy. If you are prepared to put up with that I'd still highly recommend this audiobook.
