Publisher's Summary

Life in Lake Eden, Minnesota, is usually pleasantly uneventful. Lately, though, it seems everyone has more than their fair share of drama to manage. With so much on her plate, Hannah Swensen can barely find the time to think about her bakery - let alone the town's most recent murder... Hannah is nervous about the upcoming trial for her involvement in a tragic accident. She's eager to clear her name once and for all, but her troubles only double when she finds the judge bludgeoned to death with his own gavel. Now Hannah is the number-one suspect.

As she sets out in search of the culprit, she discovers that the judge made more than a few enemies during his career. With time running out, Hannah will have to whip up her most clever recipe yet to find a killer more elusive than the perfect brownie....

    "Murder on the sweet side."

Another murder for Hanna and co. to solve. And 3 very special questions Hanna has to answer. Please please get the next cookie murder mystery. And make a cookie jar fan very happy.

    Story
    "Terrible. just terrible"
What would have made Double Fudge Brownie Murder better?

An actual plot, and some serious editing.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    Yes

What character would you cut from Double Fudge Brownie Murder?

    All of them

    Any additional comments?

I've read or listened to all the other books in this series so I knew what to expect. So my expectations were already low. I just needed something easy to listen to and usually enjoy these enough to keep up with the series. This book was terrible. No plot. Boring. The characters blabber on and on with no purpose...worse than usual, that is. I may be done with this series if this is how they are going to go now.

"What?? Don't know if I can force myself to finish"
Would you try another book from Joanne Fluke and/or Suzanne Toren?

Maybe, if this one turns around and become enjoyable.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Snooty, put-on voices don't really work for me.

    Any additional comments?

This story drags and makes me want to just ditch it and choose another book from my library. Very disappointing. I love light reads, but this is just pedantic. And what era is it supposed to be set in? It seems to verge on being a 1940's Deep South kind of thing, but I think it's actually supposed to be current day (2015). It seems prudish and very young. Am I reading a young adult book by accident? The author goes on at length about things. "Who wants dessert?" "Oh I do enjoy a little treat after supper!" "They have German chocolate cake!" said The Mom. "German chocolate cake?!" said Whoever. "I do like German chocolate cake!" "They also have cupcakes - look at all the cupcakes they have" exclaimed Whoever, pointing to the full page in her menu. "Yes, but you know what kind I'm sure they DON'T have??" explained Some Other Person? "Angel food cake..." blah blah blah. I'm almost two hours in and I don't know if I'll finish it.

"About food, not a murder mystery"

If you want to hear about food and recipes then this book is for you. It is not really a murder mystery. It is 95% recipes and eating with 5% murder mystery.

    Story
"Too much swooning and not enough sleuthing!"
Would you try another book from Joanne Fluke and/or Suzanne Toren?

I will read the next book in the series, but if it still pays more attention to the romance than the murder plot, that will be the last one.

Have you listened to any of Suzanne Toren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I really enjoy Suzanne Toren's performance and would be pleased to listen to more of her work.

Do you think Double Fudge Brownie Murder needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The Hannah series needs a follow-up, but not this particular story line. The character of Ross needs to GO AWAY.

    Any additional comments?

I have enjoyed every other book in this series, but this one went off in another direction. It had more swooning than sleuthing. I always enjoy the recipes and this one had some good ones. Although it bothered me when it talked about Jo Fluke's ideas about the recipe when it has always kept in character and referred to Hannah's ideas in the recipes.

Incredibly boring - cozy mysteries are great but they need some kind of plot and wit about them.
