Ex-deniable operator Nick Stone has spent a lifetime in harm's way - but when someone he cares for very deeply is murdered in cold blood, he can no longer just take the pain.
A high-level internecine conflict at the dark heart of the resurgent Russian Empire and an assassin's bullet on an isolated Alpine pass propel him from an apparently run-of-the-mill close-protection task into his most brutal and challenging mission yet.
As the body count increases, Stone becomes one of Europe's most wanted. He must evade the elite police forces of three nations in his pursuit of faceless men who trade in human misery and a lone wolf terrorist who threatens to unleash the Western world's worst nightmare.
Vengeance of the most explosive kind is top of Stone's agenda. The fuse has been ignited - but who really holds the detonator?

My perfect night in: Cup of tea, all my wonderful audible books and dramas and a comfortable seat on top of my bed. Nuf sed'
Paul thornley yet again delivers a highly entertaining and commendable rendition of my favourite fictional character. Full of action and suspense, this book starts off in a different way to any of the other Mcnab books I've read (I've read them all) which was a welcome change of pace.
Others might not like Nick Stone starting off his journey in the middle of a climate with amnesia, but I think after 16 NS books Mcnab needed to do something a bit different, and he succeeded with this. Brilliant.
Loved it. The new direction was unexpected but appreciated. Nick Stone is my favourite literary character and series, this is one of the best. Actually had me crying at two points. Thankyou Andy Mcnab
can't wait to see what happens next in book 18! a good book as per from mcnab. Paul back on top form ( dunno what happened to him in book 16) so all is good in the world of audio books again!
I think Paul thornley makes these good books great

Avid listener to Audiobooks, especially after a hard days work and an enjoyable meal.
It was believable, full of action and at times scary and no I dont want to be SAS or a Royal Marine. I will leave that to the young at heart..... but if you get the chance take it.
Listening to Nick Stone gradually getting his mind back after the crash.
Fabulous ! Even sounds like Mr McNab or is that the real Nick Stone ?
No but my wife did, when we heard the fate of the little boy.
Having listened one evening to Mc Nab at the Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset. My wife and I have total respect for him. No he's never been perfect but for a young boy, hardly able to read growing up in harsh condtions he writes fabulous stories.. Dont miss this one ! Oh yes and if you should get the opportunity to listen to Andy talk of his life.. you will appreciate every second.
